You are not understanding the situation then. I refer to the CCP as the biggest polluting "society" by a country mile to avoid the apologist stance for their behaviour by dividing the gigantic amount of damage they are doing by <choose a large number>slowsider wrote: ↑Fri Oct 29, 2021 1:31 pmYes, to illustrate the vacuuity of your comment that the per capita figure is a cheat, then condemning the country with most capita.Screwdriver wrote: ↑Fri Oct 29, 2021 12:58 pm Hang on you just agreed the"the planet doesn't care about countries" then use land mass by country as a way of trying to excuse China for being the biggest polluter BY SHEER VOLUME than any other society on Earth.
If you insist on dividing the damage the CCP is doing to the ecology of this planet, divide it by 1.
His name is Xi Jinping. He is personally and individually responsible for the vast damage his society, his country and his control of the CCP is doing to the entire planet. Ah you say but the "rest of the world" is complicit because we are exporting "our" CO2 emissions by proxy.
Are we? Is that what we are doing? Isn't it the case that the CCP with their "belt and road" initiative are deliberately targeting western industries in a deliberate act to usurp control by using capitalism as a weapon? They only have to convince a small handful of greedy humans to accept their dirty money and no one will ever dare say no.
I am no hypocrite. If Xi Jinping came to me and said we'll build those amazing wood burning stoves you made for you, here's £x million I wouldn't say no. That's how capitalism works. It's working for Jeff Bezos & co.
Sadly it is also working on the Biden mafia and the entire USA is selling out to the CCP - as we speak...

Re: In todays news...
Reading something yesterday about 2 planned battery powered Ro-Ro ferries (Elektras) - 3hr journey time, 1 hr recharge. 1200 passengers, umpteen vehicles (3000 lane metres). A current battery hybrid (Stena Jutlandica) has annual CO2 savings per ship 150,00 tonnes and the Chinese are building 2 more of these for Stena. So, if they build 'em and Europe cuts 0.5M tonnes they get hit with the CO2 numbers for building them, Europe logs the savings. If they get the contract for the build of the Elektras or just the batteries, same thing.
Other countries claim to be going carbon neutral while exporting vast amounts of carbon fuels. It's not just a country by country issue although each one should take some responsibility for the extraction to use chain.

Great so two wrongs do make a right then??
err, so that's two battery powered boats vs. several hundred planned new coal fired power stations. Not much right with that and a very big wrong. It's all very well pointing the finger of blame at the developed world farming out its business to China but it's not "the UK", it's fat cats who want to stuff more profit into their bulging pockets and bollocks to local industry.
And what does the CCP do with all this money apart from buying up as much land as it can get it hands on? Coal fired power stations. Hundreds of them. They have been doing this non stop for at least forty years. It turns out after all the effort the developed nations have made in reducing CO2 emissions, China has increased it's already huge CO2 emissions by MORE than the entire rest of the world has managed to reduce them.
https://www.carbonbrief.org/analysis-gl ... e-to-china
I wish people would stop apologising for the CCP. It's obvious how and why they are able to compete with civilised nations manufacturing abilities. They are a communist dictatorship using human beings as slaves and worker drones, plus they really could not give a flying fuck for the ecology of our planet. It's not even a competition. I can buy a finished part from China including the inexplicable United Nations subsidised shipping, cheaper than I can get the raw material.
The "deal" they signed up for and agreed at the Paris accord is basically China does whatever the fuck it wants until 2030 and after that, just try and stop us.

I gave one example and wondered how best to account for the total CO2.

Re: In todays news...
Tinfoil hat? You haven't heard of the "belt and road" initiative? Or do you simply not believe it could work despite all of the evidence to the contrary? Is it not true that China is building hundreds of coal fired power stations? China are basically making everything and while that does include EV's, wind and solar, they aren't building them for themselves now are they? What they have developed and tested recently is a hypersonic nuclear missile system. Chances are the US is also developing space based weapons systems in secret despite their being "illegal" but the UN is a spent force and could not stand up to China even if it wanted to.
Capitalism has developed as far as it can go. One percent of the population now have more money than the entire middle class in the US. This obscene imbalance cannot persist unless those few humans who own virtually everything can somehow also control an increasingly impoverished restless population. Hence the proposed "Great Reset" (heard of that??) and the rise of authoritarianism in the USA with the fake Biden "presidency". I imagine it is or at least was part of the idea behind the European Union.
China are being less secretive about it and Russia too with it's crime driven mafia style oligarchy. The game is changing and it won't be long before personal freedom becomes no more than a meaningless phrase. All these new powers being imposed "due to COVID" and "terrorism" do not merely apply to kung flu or ISIS, they are being used to control the general populace as former democracies like the US realise they would be better off if they did the same.
Once a state acquires these powers, you will discover they are never released. I am not obsessed by this process, nor do I require a tinfoil hat which I translate as "conspiracy theory nonsense". The reason I choose to discuss these issues is I can't believe any intelligent person would be so blind they cannot or will not see the obvious when it is right in front of their eyes.

Re: In todays news...
Yes, I know about 'belt and road', no I'm not oblivious to the Chinese industrial expansion or their expansionist agenda.
What I posted about was building and using energy/carbon efficient ships and how the total CO2 involved is apportioned. They could have been built in Singapore or Japan for what it matters. I can do the same for motorbikes or cars built in Japan and sold and used in the UK if you prefer. Personally I think that the total carbon 'cost' should probably be debited to the 'end-user account', same with gas and oil. So it may make sense that a small oil-exporting country doesn't get tagged with a huge CO2/person figure - but am open to hear what others think.
OK?

Re: In todays news...
A reasoned and informative response thanks. I think you're right about the west "exporting" its pollution and while I agree, I see it from a different angle, as a deliberate act of sabotage from a rogue actor. The CCP can lit. capitalise on its slave wage labour and willingness to generate vast amounts of pollution to the point where it is impossible to compete. They are "importing" this responsibility and then hiding or denying the pollution as best they can (given that spy satellites can still detect vast plumes of CFC's all these years after their use was banned).
In the west we have to pay a decent living wage, provide sensible working hours/holiday, H&S, produce clean energy and recyclable products.
I would hope that even if I was a multimillionaire factory owner I would still want to keep production local (and pay my taxes). As the market becomes more and more favourable to the big players, the people actually driving these industries appear to be less and less concerned about their role in society and more focussed on stuffing their pockets with cash.
But the issue is less about who is doing what (we know) less about "offset carbon tax" (a complete sham) and not even about "making them pay". It is all about stopping it from happening. Who do we have that can stand up to global corporations with vested interests let alone the CCP who will continue to do exactly as they please? The West is crippling itself and has lost the ability to compete in financially viable, ethical, eco-friendly manufacturing while China rules the roost.

Re: In todays news...
I hear Greta has said she has not received an official invitation to attend the COP26 meeting.
Why should she have had one? She has nothing to bring to the table except "what are you doing" statements.
Perhaps if she had something to offer to actually reduce emissions, or a workable plan for slowing down climate change, then perhaps she would have been invited.

Precis - Man has his identity stolen. The perpetrator then sells the bloke's house. Police initially aren't interested.

I'll be really interested in how this pans out as it was a big concern for me when I bought my house. Lots of professionals taking fees but all had a disclaimer stating they weren't responsible for certifying the seller was the real owner.Lutin wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 9:19 am Luton man left shocked as his house is ‘stolen’

With hindsight I probably should have spoken to neighbours as well to check it all seemed above board to them.
