The paper got a pro-Remain, Labour-supporting editor in March 2018...when it was bought by the owner of Daily Mirror and Daily Star.Asian Boss wrote: ↑Sun Oct 31, 2021 6:34 pm I think the point is more that the paper / its readers wanted Brexit; and then when it happened, they didn't like it.
Maybe that has something to do with the change in reporting?

Re: The Brexit thread
It's not about what I do or don't believe. It's about juxtaposing evidence of what the Brexiteers wanted/believed and the evidence of how they reacted to the shit sandwich they actually got. Which they asked for despite being warned it was a pack of lies.irie wrote: ↑Sun Oct 31, 2021 7:03 pmThe point is that papers/the media make up simplistic shit like this and mugs like you believe it.Asian Boss wrote: ↑Sun Oct 31, 2021 6:34 pmI think the point is more that the paper / its readers wanted Brexit; and then when it happened, they didn't like it.
And the oldest trick of backtracking to blame 'the media' for anything you don't like doesn't really work here - nor in most cases with some degree of semi intelligent scrutiny. But don't let that stop you from relying on it.

Half the population is under average intelligence. Add in the additional racists, the wealthy elite who actually stood to benefit, the additional toxic elderly, the additional fear zoners, the additional hoodwinked northern poor and the rest is (somewhat grotty) history.

I've seen people on here (Iccy) dismiss the whole media as pushing a paedophile and racist agenda. Which is glib. And everyone like to blame 'the media' for everything. But probably not correct. Plus if you dismiss the entire media where do you get your information from? Karen from Twitter? Blokes in pubs?Kneerly Down wrote: ↑Sun Oct 31, 2021 7:07 pmThe paper got a pro-Remain, Labour-supporting editor in March 2018...when it was bought by the owner of Daily Mirror and Daily Star.Asian Boss wrote: ↑Sun Oct 31, 2021 6:34 pm I think the point is more that the paper / its readers wanted Brexit; and then when it happened, they didn't like it.

Going back to this, who would you place most trust in?
Positions vary greatly between newspapers: Daily Mail included the most pro-Leave articles followed by Daily Express, Daily Star, The Sun and Daily Telegraph. The newspapers including the most pro-Remain articles were, in order, Daily Mirror, The Guardian and Financial Times.

I'd be more convinced by a insightful appraisal of the The Guardian and Financial Times than by all of the Daily Mail, the Daily Express, Daily Star, The Sun, Daily Telegraph and Daily Mirror put together.

Half the population is under average intelligence. Add in the assorted people who I dislike or who don't agree with me and the rest is democracy.

Re: The Brexit thread
The town of Ebbw Vale in south Wales has benefitted from hundreds of millions of euros in EU development money in the decades since its steelworks closed, but despite this it voted heavily in favour of Brexit. Since 2014, the UK has received 10.6 billion euros in EU Structural Funds.
Regions like this hope that British government funds will replace the European money.
It doesn't look like the British government will!

If it wasn't for you posting it up here as some sort of trophy then I'd never see the front page of The Express, it can waste as much paper and ink as it wants and the only people getting excited by it are those looking for angst and bitterness.
Brexit has changed some things, but like the tawny port I was drinking last night, I'm not bitter
As for where to get information, I still think (pro remain) Guardian and Financial Times are far better than the (pro leave) Daily Mail, the Daily Express, Daily Star, The Sun, Daily Telegraph and Daily Mirror.

All that EU money doesn't seem to have helped much but at least they have a pretty dragon.Asian Boss wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 6:04 pm The town of Ebbw Vale in south Wales has benefitted from hundreds of millions of euros in EU development money in the decades since its steelworks closed, but despite this it voted heavily in favour of Brexit. Re: The Brexit thread
Pointing at the Guardian as an example of a good source of information shines a spotlight on your own bias. It's no better than the Sun, the Mirror or the Telegraph, it just leans a different way. The Guardian isn't wrong about everything, but that's the way to bet.Asian Boss wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 6:11 pm As for where to get information, I still think (pro remain) Guardian and Financial Times are far better than the (pro leave) Daily Mail, the Daily Express, Daily Star, The Sun, Daily Telegraph and Daily Mirror.

People like reading newspapers that share opinions they hold, so it is no great surprise you like the Grauniad.Asian Boss wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 6:11 pm As for where to get information, I still think (pro remain) Guardian and Financial Times are far better than the (pro leave) Daily Mail, the Daily Express, Daily Star, The Sun, Daily Telegraph and Daily Mirror.
However, give the statement (I believe it to be a fact) about people's preference, and adding up the circulations of the papers you don't like, you might like to take one for democracy and stop whining . We have left the EU, you don't think that was a good idea, and it turns out it isn't the panacea that some idiots thought it would be. Fine, can we now move on please.

I get information from any and all sources because all sources contain kernels of truth, some more than others. Bluntly, I do not believe what any source says because there are so many covert and not so covert agendas. I cross verify and make up my own mind, but am prepared to change my mind when seeing new information/data.
