Washing Textile Gear

Hi all,

So my textile Alpinestars jacket and trousers are recommended as handwash only. Bit of a faff. Do people machine wash them anyway?

I need to get rid of the dead flies from winter.....

I chuck my Dainese jacket in the washing machine.

Mine says hand wash. They always get chucked in the machine with Nikwax

Gonna put my jacket in a 30 wash and leave the armour in, see what happens. I won't tumble dry though.

There was some left and i used it on my old leather gloves. Gloves on while spraying and rubbing my band like an old perv. Anyway it worked. Heading home from south to north Holland for the ferry i got nothing but rain and my hands were almost 100% dry. How long it lasts is a guess as i started to use the van the next year, BTW use old gloves as it leaved white residue.

Pretty much. The tech wash gently cleans and the TX adds a water shedding surface layer iirc. Used them both on lots of things and never had any problems and I think they're 'eco' too. (Factoid: the chap that invented it (Nick) first cooked it up in his London flat in 1977, aged 22, he also owns Paramo. )

I don't wash mine. I just hose them down on the line when it's time to reproof them and then paint them with tent proofer. Wearing them in the rain will shift most stuff.

Also, one significant disadvantage of wash in proofer is that it waterproofs your pocket linings. Having been stuck at a services for 12 hours after my alarm remote sat in a pocket full of water put me off ever doing that again... or indeed ever having an alarm again.

My jacket is naturally drying upstairs. Armour all fine, just back protector to go back in. Normal washing powder and a good spin. It doesn't have waterproof membrane, it's a separate zip in job. Pretty shit really. Could do with a decent jacket sometime. Waterproof overjacket in the boot.
