Looks like it was a real gun with a real bullet that shot two people stood behind each other, that changes things a bit.

Shortly after a number of crew walked off set to be replaced by non-unionised crew. Talk of poor safety in this low budget film and previous issues with guns going off.

Baldwin was not just the killer and "star" in this film about an accidental shooting(!), he was also the producer. Going to be difficult for him to wriggle out of this one.

Somebody don't like Alec ....
That narrows it down to pretty much anybody who has ever met him allegedly.

Why would you have a real fire arm on a movie set, they're heavy and dangerous, a plastic replica would be more than good enough.
Looks and money. To CGI in every gunshot would be horrendously expensive. Blanks are cheap.

I find that very easy to believe for someone who never rose to the level of "B list" Hollywood celeb.

The dispute and walk out (plus reports unionised crew were thrown out) does make me wonder if someone left a little present as a parting shot - so to speak.

With any luck if Baldwin was bankrolling this as well as producing it and trying to do it on the cheap, he won't have enough money left to buy his way out. Sadly, even a wannabe B list actor would have phenomenal amounts of cash these days.

Not the first gun accident for that producer, was it an accident?

Well, it sounds like an accident to me, albeit one brought about by negligence.

As to who's negligence it was, we shall see.

I was reading today that the crew were using the guns to shoot tin cans earlier that morning. I would have thought any movie gun would have been kept well away from people messing about and if it was used should have been thoroughly checked by the armourer when it was returned and handed out. It seems the armourer was inexperience as well and had complaints on their last film.

I've never handled a real gun, but I would have thought that anyone who spends their lives around them would check to see if they are loaded when handed one, be that the armourer, director or actor.

Familiarity breeds contempt and all that.

Personally I wouldn't point a real gun at another person full stop, that's rule 101 innit? Only point guns at people you want to kill. I'd also check for myself every single time that it wasn't loaded if I did have to point it at someone else regardless of whether or not someone told me it was 'cold',

But....see my first point.

When I use to go out with my Dad shooting on the farm, if we walked anywhere the shotguns were broke for the walk duration. My Dad was a softly spoken man and I think the only time I heard him raise his voice, was if someone strayed from behind the gun(s). I vividly remember him making me shoot a lemonade can with a 12 bore and saying that's why you don't make mistakes with guns.

I find it absolutely incredible that this mistake happened and there have apparently been other near misses and various incidents with guns on a film set! I know nothing about pistols but if I was the Armourer or in charge of the guns, I sure as hell would know, and separate, which ones had live ammo in!

OOI, if someone passed you a firearm, would you check the chamber was clear, even if you were told what state it's in? That's what surprised me about this incident.

My thoughts. I've handled firearms for a long time and my habit is to check safety, if pistol and chamber whether revolver or pistol. You are holding something that is made to kill, your duty is to ensure it is safe. Same thing with handing something over is to state if loaded etc...

Negligence is the tip of the iceberg and familiarity breeds contempt. You point a gun at someone if you are intending to shoot them. They should be using camera angles, remote viewing etc to make things safe.

Pretty much standard stuff, it was drilled into me as a cadet.
But old Alec is an anti gun nut, so rules don't apply to him as he knows best

Heck no. Bible is enough for repentance. I just used to do combat shooting with handguns growing up in SA. I did my own reloading etc. used to be part of weekend life to go to the range and fire a couple of thousand rounds. But that is in the past. And yes, I did fencing as well and liked the Epee, Foil was too light and flimsy for me. I'm just saddened that simple gun safety was not followed, leading to fatality that was avoidable.

I do enough funerals at the moment, did another today for a lass who died of cancer at the age of 58, a year older than my sister in law who passed away at 57 a couple of months ago. Makes me feel a bit morbid!
