I don't post that regularly admittedly, but for some reason I get logged out every few days.

I also get the cookie warning pretty much every day.

It's a bit of a pain to have to close the cookie warning and log in every time I want to post...

It won't be my machine per se as it's only this site, but it might be an issue with the site and Safari for example.

On a related note, the cookie message is almost impossible to close on mobile Safari - it seems to sit above the area that's used to expose the bottom of the browser chrome so it just displays that and keeps the message open. Can video it if you like.

Just logged out and in on both - will use both side-by-side and see if the logouts vary.

I've done a bit more testing on both Safari and Chrome on iPhone and, although they both have a similar feature whereby the browser chrome disappears on an upward scroll and re-appears on a downward scroll, Safari also has a feature whereby it reappears if you tap on the lowest portion of the screen.

In both, the cookie close link is obscured by the browser chrome when it's in view, but in Safari you can't really tap to close because it just invokes the action to make the browser chrome re-appear over it.

Ultimately, phpBB have put the cookie message too low for mobile browsers, but you can get round the issue in Chrome, not so in Safari.[

What's the setting? As in, whether to have a time out?

Re the cookie warning, the guidance has actually softened and it's not really mandatory to have the warning popup any more, depending on the cookies. The guidance is actually incredibly vague (no way!), but can be interpreted that as long as cookies are only used for standard and essential use, and that there's a clear link on every page to the cookie policy, consent can be implied on the basis that every fucker now know about them - as long as they can easily find details of the policy. Still very common for sites to have the policy pop up because they're belt-and-braces or just not keeping up to date, but just FYI.

Edit: Just been reading up and looks like the guidance got changed again a few months ago. Happens every few months it seems. So they've gone back a little on 'implied consent' and have specified a positive action needed to accept any non-essential cookies. So any ads, analytics etc does require an opt-in action. Functional stuff like staying logged in would probably be ok, but very few sites don't have analytics etc anyway.

As usual, last I read was that nobody's ever been in trouble for it of course, and anyone that did would probably have to be a mega site with a continued flagrant disregard, so it's not like any small site is ever going to hear a virtual knock the door but, yes, to be fully compliant what I said above is now out of date Until the next update.

That's interesting and a bit odd. The second option about requiring acceptance before a use can register or log in is definitely not working correctly (in safari etc etc) as I don't see the log in link until accepting the cookie. So whenever I get logged out, maybe every 2 weeks or so, I have to accept the cookie thing first. Of course I would anyway to get it out of the way, but does suggest some issue with the settings and Safari perhaps.
