Suggest Bikes for me to buy
Wes Cooley dying has made me realise I may not be healthy enough to ride a bike for much longer, so I want to buy a new or newish bike that I'll enjoy riding
I want this
But Honda aren't going to make it, suggest an alternative, budget up to £15K.
Obvious answer is the CB1000R it's based on, but they're ugly.

Re: Suggest Bikes for me to buy
Mmmmm what's the criteria ? Engine preference ?
I'm going to go a bit against the grain and not pick something i have or i've owned and say Triumph 765RS. I think it would suit you perfectly in terms of performance and weight/size etc.
If not, i'm going to throw an MV into the mix... because.. well, look at it.

I don't like that MV, but there is one I liked the look of, a special edition dragster I think, but they have weird triangles that stick in my thighs, I also don't think I'd own another bike made by MV, I've got plenty of old bikes that need regular minor attention, I don't want a new bike that does.

And I have to like the looks of whatever I buy, no thing that looks like it might turn into a robot

Well that takes care of Ducati, KTM, MV and Triumph.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 9:13 am I don't like that MV, but there is one I liked the look of, a special edition dragster I think, but they have weird triangles that stick in my thighs, I also don't think I'd own another bike made by MV, I've got plenty of old bikes that need regular minor attention, I don't want a new bike that does.
So we've got Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki left to pick from now...
What's the engine preference out of them ?

What about an R Nine T (I can see one in my future) or maybe the Thruxton R?

I was gonna say R Nine-T. I really like the white one with the M colours, the name of which completely escapes me now.
P.S., my Dad - who is only a smidge older than Cheesy - has just got a new CB1000. I have to say, it's extremely colour sensitive! In black they look really good IMO, his is white with a top box and it looks like a proper pipe and slippers bike.

They're apparently very uncomfortable with clipons.

I'm with you... i don't honestly think there's anything out there that ticks his boxes, otherwise he'd already have posted it. I'm guessing this rules out the Z650 and others because he's already mentioned them but asking us for ideas implies that's not on the list any more.Nordboy wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 9:29 amLe_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 9:14 am And I have to like the looks of whatever I buy, no thing that looks like it might turn into a robotOh dear, I see trouble ahead!!!
From what i can see, he wants a bike that looks 1980s, has 2020 electronics, but 1980s build quality and rides like a 2020s bike.... Sadly for him, that bike doesn't exist... if it did, half of the old fuckers on here would have one.
The looks really don't come into a bike choice for me, i'd have happily bought the CB1000R that most people despise if it had a different engine, by the same factor, i'd buy a 1290SD or an MT10... Because the looks are secondary to me.
Do i like the looks of my new MT07... meh, it's fine, it's nice enough. But i bought it for how it rides.

Most of the above, I wonder if it's possible to make a CB1000 look niceweeksy wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 9:34 amI'm with you... i don't honestly think there's anything out there that ticks his boxes, otherwise he'd already have posted it. That looks alright, Lings (about 400yds away) have a second hand one and a couple of new ones, and the sun is shining, a short walk at lunch time may be necessary.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 10:27 amYour first post in this thread would suggest it is. Too tarty for me, and hideous back end- dunno whether it's just the camera angle but it looks like a bike that's designed for going in a straight line only.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 10:27 amYour first post in this thread would suggest it is.
