Was parked up in a little French village when in rolls a young, English chap in a trench coat, riding something like a Honda 90 with a home-made head-to-toe 'windscreen' made out of ply and perspex, + canvas saddle-bags. He was on his way back to India. I dont like the styling either but its never going to be in my "i might fancy one of those " lists anyway as it doesnt tick the boxes i want

To be fair the sports Ducati's are about 100 lbs lighter. Mine will be in the heavier end of the range although not as much as the full on Enduro. You could argue that heavier bikes make better tourers.
My old Varadero and my KRS both weighed over 240kg and were/are sure footed and stable beasts.

Certainly not a thread, this, to make anyone rush out and buy an NT1100. But then it's hardly been discussed (maybe details weren't out at the start of the thread?).
Pros from the specs seem to be (a) Africa Twin engine and chassis (?), (b) decent suspension, (c) electronic stuff for those who want it, (d) panniers included in price, (e) only £12k. That strikes me as quite a good package. Negatives are maybe weight and (arguably) chain drive.

Unsurprisingly my Dad is already down for a test ride. As he'd be coming off a Pan ST1300, which replaced a Pan ST1100, he's definitely Honda's target demographic. The problem for them is that he's 78 in December and that bike just isn't doing it for the rest of us.
I can make good progress on his Pan and it's properly all day comfortable and a great mileage bike. But do I want one? Erm, nope.

It's just too heavy for me, at my stage of life. Anything I buy now has to be sub 200kg fully fuelled and ready to roll.
Plus it doesn't inspire me in the slightest.

It's not very sexy looking is it. Like a Honda Jazz on 2 wheels. I'm sure it rides nice and will do the job but it doesn't blow your socks off. Looking at the spec I'd save a shed load of cash and buy a last shape VFR800. Similar weight, power and only loses out on torque. Nicer looking too, albeit still not sexy.

I reckon the only reason to buy the NT over the AT is if you've got tiny little midget legs.
