It's a balance. I don't agree with mandating the jab on people, but a bit of carrot goes a long way.

Still wearing a mask in shops etc although we're a shrinking band. I don't mind at all and if it has any chance of reducing the probability of getting mild Covid, the new 'super-cold' or flu then
(Been jabbed against Covid and flu but even so...).

I don't agree with jab mandating either but if it's impacting my liberty then, tbh, screw the anti-jabbers they can have their liberty restricted

Numbers around here have rocketed over the last couple weeks. A lot of that is in schools.

Pretty much all of that^.
I honestly don't see the issue about wearing a mask in shops. Easy.

It's still fairly strict here and nobody complains.demographic wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 7:32 pmCount Steer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 4:03 pm Still wearing a mask in shops etc although we're a shrinking band. Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
Covid cases seem to be increasing substantially.
NHS hospitals are full, ambulances are at full stretch. Locally ambulances take up to 13 hours to discharge a patient into A&E.
Now care homes are saying they won't take new residents, or anyone from hospital.
And people are reluctant to get jabbed because of the "risk". "
Others want "freedom" to not wear masks/show their vaccination status.
Good show people, you will soon have another "freedom", the freedom to die of a bike/car accident or a heart attack/whatever. No ambulance, they are busy, no hospital, they are full.
Enjoy your freedom folks.

For decades the NHS has been swamped by people that have blatantly and negligently ignored health advice, with the result that the system can't cope. If you got rid of obesity and smokers the NHS will have all the spare capacity they need, so it seems a bit unfair to pin the NHS being busy to busting point on people that don't want to walk around with a nappy on their face for the rest of their lives.
I reluctantly wear a mask, I watch what I touch, I give people their space, I mind what I'm doing, it's no big deal, I'll do my bit to try and help the general situation, but I'm not so keen on the masks and it feels a bit lop sided to point an accusing finger at me when the real problem with the NHS is it's been overstretched for decades with obesity, smoking and alcohol related illnesses.
Mask shaming is fashionable amongst the chattering classes, but shaming people for unhealthy choices should be obesity>smoking>alcohol>masks.
Mask wearing seems to have become a method of protecting another group of people making unhealthy life choices, the covid jab dodgers.
If flu takes off this winter then it could well be masks again to protect yet another group making unhealthy life choices, the flu jab dodgers.

Funny, but i thought there was a lot of 'other' people who've died too.irie wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 6:36 am Mask wearing seems to have become a method of protecting another group of people making unhealthy life choices, the covid jab dodgers.

There are, but many 'other' groups will die for reasons other than their unhealthy life choices.weeksy wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 7:07 amFunny, but i thought there was a lot of 'other' people who've died too.irie wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 6:36 am Mask wearing seems to have become a method of protecting another group of people making unhealthy life choices, the covid jab dodgers.

Really?
Surely people will still get ill, just of something different.
In my lifetime, cancer has gone from '1 in 3 of us' to 1 in 2. And more older people has led to more living with dementia.

And motorcyclists, cyclists, climbers, swimmers, car drivers, office workers, soldiers,Potter wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 8:57 amIs that an argument for wearing masks or against?
Because you're absolutely right, if they don't die of obesity, smoking or covid they'll only die of something else anyway, so no need for masks?
Of all the people ever born they will all eventually get ill and die of something - my point was that if you're going to shame people for not wearing masks then shame the obese, smokers and boozers as well.

However, we are where we are, smokers have fcuked their lungs, drinkers have fcuked their livers, fatties are just bloody obese, and the NHS is about to go pop. We cannot fix any of that in 6 months, we could make everyone get jabbed and wear a mask for the next 6 months. I do wear a mask, I have been double jabbed, waiting for my booster jab next week, and I avoid crowded places. I also ride a bike, high risk I know, but if I do have an interface with something hard I would like A&E to have a go at patching me up, without a 3 hour wait for an ambulance and a 6 hour wait in A&E. In the longer term we should seriously consider a special tax on tobacco/alcohol/burgers just to fund extra NHS capacity.
I'm not going to disagree with that either.Potter wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 4:24 am

You mean like there already is, a tax for each that generates far more income than the users of booze and fags ever takes out of the system?Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 9:15 am In the longer term we should seriously consider a special tax on tobacco/alcohol
