No way.
lol we're well aware of your position on Ducatis. Despite the fact the 916/996 and 998 and even the 999 destroyed both domestic and world level series for year after year.

Don't care what they won, they're a Marmite bike. Like KTMs.

You own a KTM

What do you like about RC30s then?

The only homologation special which ever appealed to me was the R7. These things a probably just down to what was unobtainable when you were a yoof.

Did they ever do a super duper VTR1000 SP-1/SP-2...or did it just win as it was, give or take? ISTR the race bikes even kept the starter motor?

P.S. I always preferred the US "RC51" name for that bike.

Shit, I missed the R7... and the YZF750SP.

I don't think there was a 'special SP1/2... each one was hand built by a man at HRC, so I imagine the standard one was pretty special.

Now there's a thing that kinda freaks me a little.

I'd hate to pop my clogs wanting something and being able to afford it,yet not buying it for whatever reason. I'm like that with Kawa triples, gonna end up leaving it too late.

There's no doubt he could afford one now, but he gave up bikes a good 15 years ago. He's 77 with Parkinson's.

I guess after the sister and me left home and became financially independent he just didn't have the desire for one anymore, but when I was a kid he'd take me to shows on his A65 he restored and always pointed out the A75's.

At some in the future I'm mulling the idea over of a complete change, selling everything and doing something very different. I don't think it's healthy or reasonable to expect to be able to just walk back into a life you left over a decade ago.

We'll probably keep a house as a bolt hole, but everything else will go, maybe at that point I'll try a new direction and have just one bike, maybe an RC30.
OK I'll bite, what's the plan Stan?

If we're talking about Ducatis, I know a man who may be looking to sell his immaculate 1500 mile 999r Fila Replica.

And by immaculate, I mean possibly > @weeksy clean... :)

He hasn't talked money yet but the only reason he's selling is because he has seen another bike he wants.

Obviously it won't be cheap but it is a very good example, if you like that sort of thing.........

I can't see 999's ever been worth the same as the equivalent (R/S/SP) 916/9996/998.

I think I'd rather an 888 SP4.

I know someone who had a YZF750SP, now has a couple of SP1s, one is a Moriwaki race bike, they both eat cdis, he regrets selling the YZF, he says it was easy to ride and never went wrong, but he's also got two or three Bimotas, so he knows all about bikes going wrong.

Going back to RC30s, their race results aren't all that great, Fred Merkel won the first year of WSB on one, but Pirovanno was second on an FZ750 beating a load of RCs, a lot of what people think we're RC30 wins in Endurance and F1 were actually RVF750 results, and the RVF is more like a Grand Prix bike. Foggy might have had some good results in one in BSB, but my memory is that Rob Mac and Jon Reynolds won most British Championship rounds at the time, but I can't remember if they used Superbike or F1 rules then, I think F1, because Darren Dixon was using an RG500

The RVF750 wasn't allowed in BSB & WSB.
BUT, I was at the TT when they blew everything else away :)

Funny,if I had to have a Ducati it would be a triple nine. I like the odd (for the time) looks Maybe because it's the only Duc I've ever had a run on!

I've ridden a 748R and a 999S (and my 620SSie race bike).

The 748 was tiny and uncomfortable. The 999 was crippling.

Ha! It fitted me just nice. Then again I had an 04 ZX10R for 14 years.

I rode a 900SS, it fitted me fine but it was horrible to ride.

I rode a 999 back to back with my old 996, I found the 999 waaay roomier. Its all relative though

Lovely things to look at, but I don't fancy owning another 916 variant.
I actually prefer the look of the 888.
