I've sold a motorcycle
In a shock move I've actually sold a bike, my FZR400 is on it's way the Whaley Bridge, sold it to a guy who has two more FZRs and apparently another 14 400s.

Re: I've sold a motorcycle
That's a good question, there is a motorcycle sized hole in the garage, I'm not in any rush but the NEC bike show could be interesting for me this year, new Z650 looks quite nice, could be tempted by an MT-07, I think the new R7 looks nice but I think the riding position won't fit me.

Sixteen 400 bikes. Wow.
That's definitely his thing.

And 600s are underpowered 750s and they're underpowered 1000s.
But really, it's a different mindset, different way of riding. However not everyone gets it.

Re: I've sold a motorcycle
Folk buy 600s, 750s and 1,000s and love them
Every 400 rider and the forums seem obsessed by getting them faster.
Just buy the 600.

Re: I've sold a motorcycle
400s were often mega high spec / build quality machines intended for the JDM market when it was at its peak.
Often the cost as much as the 1000cc equivalents and were more trick and special.
Compare a 1988 CBR400 to a 1988 CBR600 for example.
Anyone can go and buy a 1000cc sports bike now. Many of the 80s / 90s / noughties 400s are far more interesting IMO. The 250cc two strokes also, such as the MC28, VJ23 et al.

Re: I've sold a motorcycle
The JDM 400s made in the 90s were very high quality, much better than the 600s, which were all do everything bikes, my FZR was like a miniature OW01, the GK76 GSXR400 is the best GSXR I've ridden, including the SRAD and K2 750s I had, the Honda NC30 handles incredibly, all of them are very good to ride, have enough power to be fun, but are never over powered.
It helps to be physically small to get the most out of one, as they're tiny and cramped, I'm no longer physically small and it was too uncomfortable for a 20 minute track session.

Re: I've sold a motorcycle
I rode a few 400s and they were just noise. The GSXR400 was the second worst bike I have ever ridden. I was given it as a courtesy bike. After 3 miles I took it back and got a taxi home.

Re: I've sold a motorcycle
IIRC when the NC30 and FZR400RR were officially sold in the UK they were about the same price as Honda's and Yamaha's 1000cc sports bikes. This was because of their no-compromise spec / build. 600s were much cheaper and lower spec. The 400s were arguably higher spec than the 1000s.
I'd love a nice NC30 or 35 but they're not cheap these days.

Re: I've sold a motorcycle
I had a UK model FZR400RR.
it had the frame pre-fix 4DX (rather than 3TJ).
MPH clocks, a single piece tail light and the mirrors and indicators off the 1000.
I loved that bike. Trader it in for a brand new R6.
N880DWF.
I also had a Tri-arm CBR, two Gull-Arm CBR's, an NC24 and a 400 Bros.

Re: I've sold a motorcycle
I can have just as much fun in a 125 than a larger bike but i dont need to bolster my post count either.
I remember driving down to London to pick up a SRX400. We had shots at driving it home rather than put it in the van at times. Great wee bike it was. Not the quickest off the mark but the guy wanting it bought it to do courier work in the city, ideal. I use bikes for more distance than track day shizz so no need for head down arse up bikes but will still laugh at you if dressed like a power ranger

Re: I've sold a motorcycle
No argument from me. Never known so much noise to be accompanied by such a lack of movement and in such an unenjoyable fashion. Pointless, when compared to the other options...Yorick wrote: ↑Sat Oct 16, 2021 9:30 pmMy opinion is quite valid.

Re: I've sold a motorcycle
TBF they were hardly slow where the IL4 was concerned. 120 ish what was only about 20mph slower than the 750 option and inch to inch and a half seat height so not much smaller also. Late 90's they were selling like hot cakes due to BHP limits and noob insurance costs. I thought the ZRX400 was a cracking wee bike https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model ... 0%2093.htm

Re: I've sold a motorcycle
I don't mind small(er) capacity bikes, my main issue is that theyre generally so physically small.
