KTM 890R- The Super Scalpel!
At long (long) last, my 890 finally landed at my dealer this morning, yay!
The not so good news is that Covid disruption has meant that they're playing catch-up and have a bit of a backlog in the workshop so it's not going to get built and PDI'd until Wednesday next week, but at least it's here at last- it's the first one of only 3 that they will be getting this year apparently.
There will be more from me once I've taken ownership, (and quite possibly a back-to back review with an XSR900 I suspect ) but in the meantime, here, hot off the press is what Fagan and Mossy thought of it...

Re: KTM 890R- The Super Scalpel!
I don't normally like the sound of triples but the ST sounded lovely at full chat!
Sounds like the 890 makes more usable power everywhere compared to the Street Triple. It almost seems like the 790 was a beta release as the 890 seemsimporved literally everywhere! Look forward to reading your ride report!

I watched the 44 Teeth review the other night and they obviously had a lot of love for the 890 over Nigel
That immobiliser thing though One day KTM will just make a finished bike....maybe
Them roads as well! stunning. Make we wanna book a west country trip.

Re: KTM 890R- The Super Scalpel!
I had a loaner Street triple RS last week and completely understand the difference they describe. The Triumph feels really classy and sophisticated. Unfortunately it was wet so I din't get a chance to really go mad but you do have to give it more revs than my old 790 so the 890 should be pretty rude!
Me and some mates were going to ride over to Ilfracombe on Saturday but now Fagan and Mossy have shown the A39 to the whole UK I suspect every man and his dog, and the police will be all over it!
Looking forward to hear what you think of it Tricky

It's too far for me for a 'quick' ride, but that A39 is on my list now for a weekend away. Had hoped to have been able to stay at my Aunt and Uncles in Yeovil this year again but they are shielding so might need to look at a cheeky night in a Premier Inn mid week.

Excellent news, bet you can't wait?
Judging by that review it sounds like it'll be your weapon of choice and well worth the wait.
It'll be interesting to see how much life you get out of the tyres - they look like cut slicks so there's no doubting where KTM see its market positioning, eh? Am I right in thinking you've got a Brands Indy day booked sometime soon?
I look forward to seeing it in the metal next week.

Re: KTM 890R- The Super Scalpel!
Slightly delayed, but today is the day- I collect it later this afternoon, yay!
As always suspected but until recently unconfirmed, the quickshifter and "Track pack" ( traction control and ABS/anti-wheelie disable) are ( obviously, as its the super-sporty version of the 790 ) optional extras- £350 each or £655 for the pair , but Premier have done me a deal on that to make it slightly less unpalatable
What was quite a pleasant suprise is that Cruise Control is also an option on the 890 at just over £200, which is not at all unreasonable IMO and I think should make this just about my perfect bike
More to follow over the next couple of days once it's finally in my possession...

Re: KTM 890R- The Super Scalpel!
Well, it's home, all tucked up in the garage and although we had to take a few twists and turns, I spent a good couple of hours in the saddle on it this afternoon and we managed not to get rained on!
It had 3 miles on it when I picked it up, it's now up to just about 100 so I haven't managed to explore all of it's features and capabilities but, ( suprise suprise ) - guess what- I fucking love it with a passion already
As you might expect, it sounds and rides just like a 790 , but a really really fit one engine wise, that's also had time and money spent fettling and setting it up
I'm fecked and have other calls on my time this evening, so more will follow over the next couple of weeks as I get some more miles on it, but immediate stand-out bits for me are
That's it for the moment- the carbon front guard bar end mirror, case protectors (and possibly the Wings can from my old 790 as although I like the sound of std, still hate the looks) will go on over the next week or two, I'll also be getting an Evotech rad guard for it when they make it ( 890 rad is bigger than 790 so my 790 one doesn't fit), and I'll also run it down to Gav @ MSG racing , just down the road from me here to see how the Wings can affects the power, if at all, compared to standard, just as i always meant to do that on my 790 but never got around to it.
Apart from that, it's just get a few miles on it over next few weeks so I can get it in for the first service before it's first trackday which is gonna be Brands on Aug 13th- should be a nice track for it I reckon- all we need is for Couchy to bring his latest purchase along and we could have a nice little RTTL non-sportsbike parallel twin shoot out- what do you reckon old boy?

- Very much stronger mid-range than the 790, and loves to wheelie even more than that did- I predict this is gonna be THE wheelie bike to rival an MT10
- Stonking brakes
- Very very smooth and well-sorted fuelling, in all (road, sport and track) engine modes, even at low-speed constant throttle, definitely better than my 790 was
- Haven't measured or looked at any settings, but front end suspension felt lovely, rear less so- very firm, although bizarrely I thought seemed to get better the harder I rode it and the rougher the roads were
- Significantly higher and harder (rock hard) seat than the 790- this will have to change I think

That looks really sweet in that colour. The 44 Teeth review was pretty glowing.
Re: KTM 890R- The Super Scalpel!
Ar - you beat me to it!
That does look grand - glad you are loving it so far! Note what you say about the seat; I’ve ordered the comfort seat (the lover one, not the higher one!) in anticipation.

Re: KTM 890R- The Super Scalpel!
THat sounds like exactly the seat I need too
I'm thinking about either wrapping or spraying the rear seat cover white- looks a bit out of place to me being black, and I think if it matched the front guard and tank sides would look much nicer.
I've actually got a spare one of them too, as I kept the one I previously bought for my 790.
I need to pick up a 790 rear seat pad too, just for occasions when I'm using the Ventura bag.
When are you picking yours up (assuming you don't already have it ) - have you got a date yet?
