Man, it's slippy out there

Post by Mr Moofo »

Just reporting the return of green chalk and wet chalk with all the grip properties of multigrade motor oil has returns to the South Downs...
This morning's ride was "interesting"

this time of year we locally just don't go onto the Ridgeway, ever really... it's just not the place to play so any riding goes south of us instead which is more generic loamy mud....

So Wednesday nights ride involved taking my mates down “OMG are you serious?” which is very step, narrow and compacted green chalk, how I laughed when around the corner a huge tree was across the trail, I did laugh even more as my mate on his bald race Ardents screamed to a halt just shy of the branches.

Todays ride under Longman and up past Alfriston onto the SDW involved pedalling just hard enough to keep moving forward but not to much torque as wheel spin would occur and hunting out the grass in the middle of the bridle way or the lose flints which were actually grippier. It did also involve sniggering at the dog as even he was struggling with 4 leg drive.

He’s stuck on a chalk skid pan unable to get off it😂

Yeah as long as you miss the morning dew, the trails are running sweetly here.

No slippage tonight , you can all thank me for fitting tractor tyres a month early.

Just fitted the tractor tyres to the HT...
Just wondering if dropping the pressure also achieves the same thing after comparing by 29er mud tyres and what is on there already!

Yep, definitely slippery on wet grass and a rut. I had an unplanned lie down on the South Downs Way.

We are doing a night ride tonight, looking at the weather radar, "biblical" arrives at 1930. Could be a rather interesting ride.

I was out last night, test riding the new Exposure purchase - and whilst it was dry , the trails weren't - green chalk and mud slime everywhere. Several two wheel slides - and tonights rain ( that was indeed Biblical) make me question whether I go out tomorrow

I am fooked and the bikes bearings will all need cleaning and regreasing.

Had a nice ride earlier on my retro Raleigh. Full mudguards. My yellow bike ain't got none. A few quality street in the top box and I was a happy chap.

Some bit's were flooded across the road, feet off like Mary Poppins or whoever it was. Great getting out and about in the fairly warm fresh air. 🚲
