Re: Decision, which Whyte?
My e150 was pretty miserable until i took the forks ojt to 170mm and fitted the jack up kit at the back. I need to fit some vaults or similar, but i rarely have q pedal strike now whereas before it was fairly common and i worried about the motor bearing life. I still worry about smashing it down a a rocky descent or off a drop off as the cable routing is utter dogshite, but this should have been fixed.
To be fair when it was low the handling in tight singletrack was sublime, much better than my aeris. Battery removal can be a pita, the wiring looks like it isnt finished, but there are a couple of tricks to getting it removed. Better to leave it in. The sram codes were a bit shit because i think they got contaminated, so i put new shimano disks ans uber bike pads on and its transformed it. Stupid big mudguards make it much better in winter and sort of stop some of the shit getting to the motor.

Re: Decision, which Whyte?
Had my e150s 18mths now, mine is a ‘20 model and on 27.5 wheels. It’s also got a 170mm fork and shape it link in the back. I’ve tried 29r’s and they just feel like unwieldy monster trucks but that’s prob where I ride a lot. The e150 has been great though, I swapped fork internals and rear linkage as I was getting pedal strikes but I don’t anymore. Not sure what I’d ever swap for when the time comes other than another whyte My cote goes for the 150 and then do the 170 fork and shape it linkage

The owner, a sound guy and decent rider in his 60's, spoke about it as though I should know why it was so spendy but to be honest I haven't got a clue. I presume the frame is made of something exotic and it weighs 2/10th's of bugger all or has some immense capacity battery or it comes with a Filippino woman who gives you a massage with a happy ending after every ride....
I felt such a fucking pleb on my £5k bike...

Don't be such a vulgar prole, you fucking commoner, it's a £13k bike when new off the shop floor!porter_jamie wrote: ↑Sun Oct 03, 2021 9:26 pm Christ on a bike. You could get the whyte and go to whistler for an epic Holiday and still have change
It appears it's got a carbon fibre frame, a 700wH battery, 90Nm motor, massively adjustable frame geometry and suspension kinematics, top flight components and the control electronics can take control of and pilot a plane whilst on the other side of the world....

Yeah, lovely, but would riding it make me really really fast down any hill, and make me clear any jump and drop.millemille wrote: ↑Sun Oct 03, 2021 9:44 pmDon't be such a vulgar prole, you fucking commoner, it's a £13k bike when new off the shop floor!porter_jamie wrote: ↑Sun Oct 03, 2021 9:26 pm Christ on a bike. Re: Decision, which Whyte?
My thoughts on wheel sizes, 27.5 for tighter going like woods, 29 for more open country riding.
Mullets - is 27.5 rear really that different to 29" rear, I'd have thought a wide 26" rear would make more sense, but the bike would have to be designed around that setup and not just a 26" wheel shoved in a 29" frame.
I've got round the slow steering on my 29er by fitting a shorter stem, but it's not ideal because the bike is now less comfortable on long straightish pedalling sections.

Boutique spec on that Speccy, very nice, looks mint and with only 400 miles it’s still brand new. Not worth 11K 2nd hand though.

Re: Decision, which Whyte?
Well, I've just got off the e150s having spent more than an hour on the trails in the fod
So what I was worried about....29er odd handling and the suspension feeling lesser than my Cannondale.
The reality is that the number on the tyre sidewall is irrelevant, the steering is the most predictable that I've ever ridden. Pick a point on the trail that I wanted to hit and it did every single time.
Tight niggly up hill switch backs just happen with no drama, some sections that have defeated me in the past were just little blips in the trail.
Downhill, OMFG, I've just ridden lines that I've repeatedly backed out of before, and ridden them with speed and confidence (everything's relative yeah ).
Pedal strikes- not a single one.
Downers, minor niggles really, the dropper lever is too long and was rubbing on my thumb knuckle. Meh.
Single click great changing, ffs change gears 3 at a time.
I didn't bother taking out the e160, the 150 well do nicely.
So there's not a single reason not to buy one
