Who's upgrading to Windows 11

Post by KungFooBob »

on Tuesday?

I work in IT and the whole thing has passed me by. I won't even think of putting on work PC's for a good while yet.

I'll probably stick it on my own lappy on Tuesday tho', I've run the Health Check thingy and it's suitable.

Link for the compatibility checker (at the bottom of the page), tho' to be fair the requirements are quite low...

Not for a long time, I've no desire to find Microsoft's bugs for them, no doubt the Headless Chickens of our Helpdesk will be pushing to move to it as they think it will make their jobs easier and the management will go along with it because it covers there arses.

It's installed!

Took about half an hour.

Can't help thinking the start bar location is a bit of a MacOS rip off.

Nice to see I can still use the old Control Panel (like in Win10) rather than 'Settings'.

Doesn't seem any faster or slower than Win10 on my Matebook.

Does it come with a little Stonehenge and some foil to wrap the cucumber in?

Bollocks, I have a 3 year old MS Surface tablet and it isn't compatible. Not happy but now have an excuse to buy a new one after the dust settles.

Bummer, I have a Surface Book so guessing that will be the same. Was thinking about trading it though as the touch-screen has started failing....

It was the processor that scuppered mine so I checked newer versions and found the current equivalent of mine has an almost identical processor, 1.7GHz instead of 1.6GHz. MS says minimum spec is 1GHz but not why mine is left off the approved processor list. :(

There is a contentious requirement that each PC needs a newer version of encryption hardware installed, that could be my problem but it's not made clear. Without explanation it just looks like they are playing Apple's game of forced redundancy.

I have my task bar set to autohide.

In Win 10 if I wanted to know the time i'd move the mouse down to where the time should be and it would popup the task bar.

On Win11, the task bar has stopped popping up anywhere after the first task tray item. Annoying.

Why not give it a go anyway? If it doesn't work, buy a new one as planned. Nothing to lose.

If it does work you can go public and uggber M$ evil plan. :D

My Xeon core CPU is not compatible? Wow. All the rest is, but hey ho.

More to do with the new layout look. I did like Linux mint and Mandriva but TBH i found it all updating more than Windows and my old printer never worked with them either so stuck with windows.
