We were running out desk spaces pre-Covid (before I actually started at this place). It was down to the classic "people squeezed on the end" and "shoved in the broom cupboard" type stuff. Since Covid we've taken on maybe 25% more staff and are still growing. We couldn't all come back into the office even if we wanted to.

Are all the resident WFH grifters back in the workplace, roads seem awful busy recently?

Maybe a lot of people that have to go still don't want to cram onto public transport to get to work? It seemed busier than before lock-down and furlough here this am.

My office is 'go in if you need to or want to', most WfHome.

Foal's office are requiring 20% attendance, either one whole day or two separate half days.

Probably going up every week* but not yet back to where it was (some train services have been reduced because of reduced passenger numbers).

I didn't bother taking notice of the figures (and can'tremember where to go back and check) , but it was identified as a step rise last week.

Passenger data yesterday showed a seven per cent increase in London Underground travel and a two per cent jump on bus trips in one week — both hitting a post-pandemic high.

Oh. During the fuel pandemonium? Gotcha. You'd expect that but Gregor (moi aussi) observed unusually busy traffic as that should be subsiding. Sooo...people out hunting fuel, people not using public transport when they used to, more people coming off furlough, people who work from home most days going in for some reason? Dunno but it was like Piccadilly Circus on the High Street in the nearest village (small town sized) 7.45-8.15ish this am. Obvs two obs don't make a stat but...

M2 j5 and M20 j7 seem to have heavier traffic at 5.30 to 6.00am when I’m passing through than I’ve ever known, lots more HGVs as well but that may be down to Sheerness docks getting busier.

Went to 7 fuel stations in the 30 miles to my brothers, all out of fuel completely.

I have 60 miles of fuel left so ok to get home tomorrow but then it's squeaky bum time.

Wife's car has about 150 miles of fuel but think I'll be staying home again next week

I have 60 % battery and it’s about 45 miles round trip.

I have to get to Canterbury next week from London. But have the bike on standby for that journey as parking is free and it is a quicker journey by bike than by car in terms of negotiating traffic. I have enough to get there. Same with the car. The return journey is the issue! I could siphon some from the car to make the bike journey there and back...

I actually managed to fill the car today!! Miracle (or simply that tanker arrived last night and filled the petrol tanks up at the local station). Not too much of a queue as I know the side road the leads straight to the station and that saved me around 1 hour of queueing and I was able to get straight out to collect son for dentist, who then cancelled his appt as the dental tech had no fuel to get in to work!! Ah well. at least I have a full tank of fuel and can do the pastoral visits I need to do.

Yep, I got a full tank for the car today from Sainsburys. I had to queue for 10 minutes but the Sainsburys staff are doing a good job of keeping everyone organised, moving and the way clear for people who are just going to shop.

More anecdotal evidence that the problem continues...the local station that I got my £35 worth yesterday is closed again today, no petrol or diesel. It looks like I just dropped lucky yesterday.

There was no petrol at my local station today.
But then it's often a bit like this in the sticks.
There was a queue though - 2 of us! Unheard of.
