But you do remind me of some of our clients at the moment - despite steel prices and plenty of other inflationary pressures meaning costs are going up massively they're struggling to make their minds up and therefore get their price fixed NOW so are paying 10%+ more than they would ahve done if they'd pressed the button three months ago!! It's only going one way.

For the road, I like the idea of a sub 180kg sub 80bhp sports bike so I think this an the RS660 Aprilia are a nice idea. A race series would be fun too.

The RS660 is a nice motorbike, it looks well finished and it's comfortable for me (local Yamaha dealer also sells Aprilias) but it is £2K more than the R7 and doesn't have the best reputation reliability wise (which is the bigger concern for me)

Agreed, but I think as a class of bike, its an interesting direction. I suppose the A2 licence potential is a big factor in our market too

I think as a class of bike it's ideal, I've ridden the original SV650 and I thought it was a good bike that could really have done with being a bit sportier, the performance was fine, this was 20 years ago when I had an R1 with twice the power of an SV.

If i could talk Mrs Weeksy into one, it'd be right up there in terms of plans. But i couldn't (and don't wanna) sell her on the idea of less BHP than she has.

It'll come down to riding position and quality whether I buy one, if it's uncomfortable it's not happening, if it's cheap and nasty, I'm not buying one, but talking to the Yamaha dealer they don't know how many they'll get allocated and they can't order the white ones yet.

Well as it's an £8000 bike it's not going to be full of Ohlins and carbon. It's a bike for the masses in a floundering market. However, it's a Yamaha, it'll be nicely put together and decent apart from the odd fixings and fasteners.

They say it's roomy and more comfortable than the R6, but in the photo's with a normal sized person riding, it looks tiny.

Well as it's an £8000 bike

This is probably my problem, when I owned an R1 in 2000 they were about £8000 new, now £8000 buys you the equivalent of a 350 power valve, my mind has stopped in 2002 when it comes to bike prices.

Reading the MCN report is interesting, MCN say the R7 has 5mm less fork offset than the MT07 but has the same trail, not sure how that works out unless the spindle is 5mm further forward in the forks.

Also a 190 tyre sounds wide for a 72bhp bike, a 160 would be more appropriate in my opinion.

Get out of the 1980s lol. What was 'right' then isn't necessarily right now.

Think about you £8000 R1... now think about how much a new R1 is.... £17399 is the answer... So as you say, compare the new R7 with whatever was a £4000 bike back when you bought your R1... i doubt there was much.

I was going to comment I couldn't remember what £4K bikes were around in 2000, then I remembered I bought a brand new DRZ400 for £3600 in 2000 and SV650s were about £4300 (I looked at buying one of those but bought the DRZ instead), so by that thinking the R7 is good value.
