Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
Fucking French banks. Well the one I've been with for 5 years. O. M. G. they DO NOT get any better with time.
I used the business account to hire a car (as I've done a lot over the years) to get to a couple of appointments (part business & part health, which is business really as need health to work!!).
Part of the process is a 'preauthorisation' of the deposit and rental. Then if you take the car back early, they don't have to do an actual refund, just unblock the preauthorisation and make an actual charge on the card of the rental, minus the deposit
So, the money isn't taken, it's just blocked. (Like at fuel stations here)
This doesn't show as a transaction, because, I guess, it isn't an actual transaction. The account is just X amount less than before the preauthorisation.
Equally, when they cancel the preauthorisation, the amount just reappears in the account with no line for a transaction
I've been waiting 3 weeks for a cancelled preauthorisation to show in the account. I know it takes 'around' 2 weeks, so, being as we are in France, 3 weeks is pushing it but not exactly unexpected.
BUT, I kinda need the money to show up asap!!
I have been to a different bank this morning to sort up setting up an account for me to use for the estate agent stuff (need to have a separate account, which makes sense but I SO didn't want to set up yet another with the shit bank!)
So that is in process and I was explaining to the girl I dealt with about this preauthorisation and she told me to talk to my bank as they should be able to find the money and sort it out
NOPE. My bank is totally shit. It said no. In English and in French (I did the whole hour with the new bank lady in French, but the old bank lady didn't understand the problem in French or English )
She just kept saying there was no transaction so nothing to return
FFS - I've done this often enough that I know the system but 3 weeks is the longest time for a return ever. But my bank can't/won't help me
I did say to the new bank lady that I wouldn't transfer my business account yet but after today I think that, once the new account is processed, I will go back and ask her how easy it is to move the account over (I've told horror stories!!)
I do so hate my bank

I reckon you could probably write a reasonable comedy based around mocking the tropes in bond films.
But forgot to put it in the post

Wankers using COVID / these unprecedented times as an excuse for piss poor service:
Planning permission dictates due to living in a Grade 2 property that the visible materials need to be signed off before they can be used, PP also states that for simple requests (for householders) this will be completed typically in 21 days. Just had an email saying that 21 days is a target and could be extended due to these unprecedented times…*
Fucking strange that, because when some fucker reported us for not applying for consent for a replacement to our roof which was about to slide into the garden, you wankers were here within the fucking hour!
I can’t boot off with the council about piss poor processes without fear of not only poking the bear but firmly kicking it directly in the stones!
You’ve been working from home / under current circumstances for 18 months, sort your fucking shit out!

In addition, those taking it to the extreme.
I had a blemish on my face checked out for cancer on Monday, at a clinic in Croydon. It was wet and windy, and I'd taken the bike as Croydon is a fucking nightmare for traffic.
Arrived at the glass-fronted door. Locked. A bloke came bounding from behind the reception desk, held up a hand, opened the door and stood back about 4 meters and shouted my name. I acknowledged it and went to walk into the spacious reception area he screamed at me to stop and insisted I had to wait outside, in the wind and rain.
I politely explained, through the mask I had put on, that I really needed to use the loo. He closed the door, ran off to confer with somebody, I guess, then returned, directed me down the corridor and as I came back, ushered me out of the door again, from a huge distance.
After 5 minutes, the nurse appeared, took me in the room, told me I could take my mask off, checked out the blemish (non-cancerous) whilst being very up close, for obvious reasons.
As I came out the receptionist fella insisted I santise my hands before pressing the green button to exit.
Nervy little prick. If you're that fucking scared, stay home in bed.

Staples.
And companies that think stapling cardboard boxes shut is a good idea.
And me for missing one of the buggers when I was getting the cardboard ready to go out for the recycling. I now have a nice long cut along the back of my hand.
Oh well, chicks dig scars.

HP and Microsoft
HP: There's a BIOS upgrade, do you want to install it now?
Me: OK
Several minutes later: reboot
Microsoft: You can't use the PIN to log in because of security changes, do you want to set a new PIN?
Me: Yes
Microsoft: Enter the password you set up for your Outlook account. Me: The account that I set up solely to get this machine working? The password that's saved in Keepass which I can't get to because it's on the computer I'm trying to log in to?
Microsft: We can send a code to [sagalout]@outlook.com.
Me: Yeah, like that's going to help.
Luckily, this is a dual boot machine so I booted into Linux and looked up the password there and was able to reset the PIN, but wouldn't it have been easier if HP had warned me that was going to happen? I could have made sure I had the Outlook password before updating the BIOS.

Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
Grrr. Insurance companies. When I was a student, my bank manager called me into his office and explained that the usual arrangement was that I put money into the bank then I spend it, not they put money into the bank, then I spend it. Then sold me some life insurance.
Since that time the insurance companies seem to have been a merry-go-round of acquisitions, mergers and take-overs. The policy must have been with about 5 different companies since then, I've moved home 5 or 6 times. The only consistent thing has been someone has taken the money from the bank account every month.
So I decided to find out where the policy is and get the address updated - working from the name of the company taking the money.
Shoot me, just shoot me now.

Great idea, except I don't use Outlook, as I said, I set up the account because Microsoft insisted when I set up Windows last year, Strange as it may seem, I already da another email account, being from 1949 (me, not the email account ) and knowing about this newfangled stuff.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Thu Sep 30, 2021 1:12 pm I'd have just logged into outlook on my phone, but then I'm not from 1973.

I guess you don't use the lock screen in Windizz? If I switch my laptop on or it times out I have to put the p/w in, that way I remember it. It's a bit of a pain, but if it got nicked it might keep the tea leaf from nosing around s/sheets, email etc.Saga Lout wrote: ↑Thu Sep 30, 2021 4:13 pmGreat idea, except I don't use Outlook, as I said, I set up the account because Microsoft insisted when I set up Windows last year, Strange as it may seem, I already da another email account, being from 1949 (me, not the email account ) and knowing about this newfangled stuff.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Thu Sep 30, 2021 1:12 pm I'd have just logged into outlook on my phone, but then I'm not from 1973.

Local garage, trying to pull the wool over my missus's eyes - presumably because she's forrin and a lady.
I actually feel a bit sorry for them - she will literally crucify them. I was watching her lay into them on FaceTime. Poor, poor feckers.
