The Supersport class is dead!

Post by KungFooBob »

Long live Supersports!

(yeah I know it's a 800 not a 675, but it's not a 1000cc sports bike)

I think that is the acest (is that a word?) of all the current crop of sports bikes.

I must be in a class of it's own?

It's not a 1000cc superbike. It's not a 600-700 twin.

Until Yamaha make an R9 (which will still be 30bhp down on the MV).

Absolutely. You could throw a gsxr750 in there but the have bugger all in the way of electronics.

I guess the 899 when it was there was similar but that's moved on as Ducati have kept making their baby version into a 1000

Just had to google to see if Suzuki still sell the GSXR750.

They do (in some markets), but it's not changed (except for colours) since 2011.

So many different bikes in so many different cc's and it makes me wonder what the point is. Especially for bikes with sporty pretensions, what's to be gained by deviating radically from conventional racing classes? I suppose you could argue the trend started in the 60s with 500 being the big boy and then 600, 650 and 750 coming along. But that was just a horsepower race and once you'd reached the top of the tree the variants stopped.
