Dusty trails!!! Oh yes. Short and sweet today so we didn't overheat the Boy Blunder and I'm still recovering from another bout of costochrondritus .

Mostly out jumping tonight but was 10km to get there, followed by the boys playing in the Thames and the wives getting fish and chips in goring and bringing it over for a massive picnic.

One advantage of my job is that I get to drive all round the country in my van with my bike in the back. So I'm down in the West Country for a few days, working with my design engineer at one of GWR's depots, and took the opportunity to stop off in Porlock (home of the seminal man) for a go at this route...

Lovely sunny afternoon and evening and very quiet out on the trails with some bootiful scenery.

Not a bad route, although there was too much road work to link the bits up.

Did the whole route, bar a few steep climbs, in the new Tour+ mode and I've got to say if you've got a Bosch emtb* you should absolutely get the latest software update and get Tour+, it's much better on power delivery and managing front wheel loft and rear wheel spin and it doesn't seem to lack significantly in power compared to emtb. And the battery lasts a lot longer.

*Obvs this doesn't apply to @Couchy aka "Captain Turbo"

2 battery turbo Tony 😉
Mines going in for a service next week and also new running gear, will get them to do the tour+ update as well at the same time, seems a bit 50/50 on the new update from what I've seen, if I don't like it will get them to swap it back 😁

Kinder Enduro loop today; 24 miles, 3,860 foot of climbing.

Epic.

I am broken.

If I die, delete my browser history and sell my emtb for what it's worth and not what I told my wife it cost...

Stupid steep hill. Stupid wet chalk, stupid wind. Stupid off camber. Stupid SPD’s. You get the picture. Now with ice pack on wrist and a whack to the hip.

You could have stopped at that.... that's all we needed. Chalk in the wet as many of us know is horrific.

Ladybower loop this morning, in largely glorious weather, with a local bloke who's pretty much a full on newbie. He got in touch with me a couple of weeks ago on a local riders fb group when I'd mentioned the hard core ride I had planned for last weekend and asked if he could come along. He mentioned that he didn't have a lot of experience but it turned out on the day that he was a complete newb to proper off roading.

So his very first experience, on his PoS Carrera emtb, was up Jacob's Ladder. Fair fucks to the feller, he stuck at it all day and me and the other riders gave him plenty of encouragement and tips and he came along leaps and bounds during the day. At the end of it he completed a loop that's got to rate up there as amongst the toughest in the country.

But he was broken at the end of the day and said he'd give it a few weeks before he'd be back in touch. I though we'd scared him off.

And then I started getting texts from him earlier this week "You out at the weekend, got any plans for a ride etc.?". Turns out he's properly got the bug.

Excellent.

So, 19 miles and about 3,000 foot of climbing today.

BPW on Friday for a work related day hosted by one of my suppliers.

May try and squeeze in a Cannock session on Wednesday morning with @Couchy

It's that time of year on the Downs - when those benign rolling hills are able to bite back after all the abuse you gave them after Spring / Summer.

I have yet to find out why the do not use wet chalk as a high performance lube ...

Any serious scars ?

Lol, I have a horrendous bruise on my thigh (I normally don’t bruise so it must have been a good whack, Mrs M thinks this is hilarious).

My pathetic fitness got handed to me on a plate last night on a group night ride. I can’t even say it was due to them being younger than me.
