oh man, that's awesome.. i must admit when he posted it last night i thought "hmmmm maybe" but space and looks stop me from doing it.. but i do think it's an awesome idea. I'd have to demo one though to think that the reality is as good as the concept.

Yeah, it's just a shot in the dark atm. If I were to get one I would prefer the GT as it has heated grips, luggage, taller screen but the deal is only on the standard bike it seems.

Local dealer - Woking Yamaha - has a 1200 mile GT at £11500, which I assume is ex-demo so might pop over there later to have a look-see.

I must admit that I haven't even seen one in the metal, never mind ridden one, but the quirkiness appeals.

I can get the appeal in that context as well as in terms of stability/riding based upon what's been said about them.

It's something i'd like to spend a day on first though arguably.

Wow!! That's a significant drop in OTR.

I would say it was - certainly succinct, factual.

I'll start a thread later in the week, perhaps, but no pictures cos we all know that it's the fugliest motor bicycle/tricycle on the planet.

I'd much rather have a two wheeled bike with cornering ABS than this if front end grip was a particular worry.

And if the front lets go without the brakes on?

You're riding too fast for the conditions or you've hit something like oil. Either way two 15" tyres lugging all that weight isn't going to save you ;)

Front end grip is not a worry for me on any of my bikes although the Z1000sx does have cornering ABS.

What I would say is that, despite that, the Niken front end inspires more confidence even than the Zed.

But you can't get away from the fact that they look hideous, no matter what marginal gain they're might be. Keep the sx. Sales must be down. 👎

I dunno.... they look 'different' which is sometimes a bad thing, sometimes a good thing, sometimes a bad... But i also think that their uniquness is a selling point.

I'd still need to try one before ever thinking about buying one, but it'd have to be impressive to beat the XSR for me.

I'm of the belief, front end corner grip depends on lots. Tyre choice, pressure, condition, road surface and riding style. Not convinced the Niken fixes these. I'm out. 🙂

Yep, Paul, I can't disagree with you on the looks - it hit every branch when it fell out of the ugly tree.

Sales down? ............. I'm not sure they've ever been up - I've yet to see one on the road, and yesterday was the first time I'd seen one in the metal.

What the sales guy did say to me yesterday was that Yamaha are no longer bringing in the base Niken, as per the bike that @Tricky flagged up, only the GT.

As for the S1000R above, nice bikes I'm sure and quick I know but, other than an extra 20bhp or so I don't see where it betters, or is different from, the Zed.

Still, it's all good discussion and the green bike is still safely tucked up in the garage
