I also had a look at some new bikes while I was there

Aprillia 660s I preferred the riding position of the RS to the Tuono
MT07s have the the riding position of a 1982 Z1000J
Triumph Trident 660 has a nice riding position and is amazingly slim between you knees.
KTMs are still wank

That's worth a few quid.

We worked out we had about £60K of early Z1s and Z900s on our stand, we guessed that David's NS400 is worth about £15K, he's owned it from new in 1985.

God knows how much the Vincent owners club stand was worth.

I had an enjoyable day, bought a set of YPVS kidney clocks for £50 and £30 for a really good condition side panel.

I had a Z1A same colour as the one in the first pic.

It was heaving with people,most of my photos were taken before it opened.
And I never liked NS400s, that one is very quiet.
As for Kawasaki triples, I think Graham, who owns one of the Z1s has a purple H2.

I didn't see that, probably in the custom tent, and the horrific Harris was so hideous I couldn't look at anything else in that tent.

There was loads to see, I'd forgotten how big the Suffolk Showground is and just how much you can fit into it, they had at least 3 of the arenas going all day with bike action,the stunt show was still going on when we packed up at 5 and I could hear it at my house as I put the Z away (when the World Hot Rod Championship wasn't rattling the windows)

When I look at bikes like that, especially that NSR in Rothmans colours, I wonder if people will look back in 40 years at he bikes around now and get the same feeling?

They probably will, in 1985 I wouldn't have looked at a 1945 bike, and thought bikes from the 70s were cack

I wonder how many will be working still. I'd assume electronics will move on and people will be able to trouble-shoot easier, but bikes of yesteryear were far far simpler to sort/fix.

Nostalgia probably moves with the times.

People riding today's bikes may well look back at them fondly in 40 years (conveniently forgetting any issues they may have had). Added to that will be the 'You mean those things in the museum ran on hydrocarbons?! Tell us about the old days before the heat death of the planet daddy' effect as more and more people imagine transport has always run on Duracells. They'll be seen as objects of awe from a dangerous and exciting time.

I don't think it's always (or even sometimes at all) about the bike.
My LC reminds me of a time in my life, if I'd been born ten years earlier it would be a different bike, same feeling.

Anyway, my point is that I'm not sure many people are growing up today having amazing times and generating great memories on bikes, so I think the classics of tomorrow won't sell in huge numbers - in fact they aren't selling in huge numbers today.

That's pretty much what I meant about nostalgia moves with the times.

But yes. There aren't many young people buying and insuring current bikes because they can get a pretty good car for that sort of money. In 40 years time the people currently spending 15k on a bike today will mostly be in their 90s+ or feeding the daisies.
