Looking at this news story on the BBC.



There's a definite 'driver bad - cyclist the victim' slant in the story, but I'm watching the video pondering two things:

Can't see what was wrong with the overtake, but clearly the clip is short and not very telling.

If a cyclist in a group decided to hang on to my car, I'd probably feel quite intimidated or threatened. Had the lead cyclist decided to slow right down and stop, you'd be forced to do the same and be at risk of a Lycra-clad shoeing.

Cyclist shouldn't have put hands on the car, it can only make a situation worse.
Car driver should get more than a caution though IMO.

I must be missing something here.

You'd think that overtaking the car driver wanted to "get on" - so why does he then slow down to argue?

The car driver looks clearly in the wrong but I suspect the rolling road block ignored several opportunities to diffuse the situation.

Re the cyclists:

The car driver should recognise the hazard, deal with it safely, then continue on his journey congratulating himself on a job well done. Any course of action other than this marks him/her down as incompetent. A course of action which results in motorist stopping to argue makes him/her a total cunt, as in this case. The roads are full of fools who've passed a rudimentary driving test and think they're gods gift to motoring.

France has said it is recalling its ambassadors in the US and Australia for consultations, in protest at a security deal which also includes the UK.

The French foreign minister said the "exceptional decision" was justified by the situation's "exceptional gravity".

The alliance, known as Aukus, will see Australia being given the technology to build nuclear-powered submarines.

The move angered France as it scuppered a multibillion-dollar deal it had signed with Australia.

Did you watch the video I linked to?

The cyclist didn't "start something", the driver stopped or slowed right down then set off again while he was in the middle of the group. If anybody "started something" it was the driver.

You can only see backwards in that video. At 35s they all start crowding around the slow/stopped car.

Gremlin is right, they all need burning and then burning again. And anyone who tries to put themselves in front of a car being driven by an angry person is a fucking tit. They may not deserve to be run over but they'd have to be a bit thick to not expect it.
