I'm sitting here giggling mostly!! I'm also a bit grumpy as my coffee machine has worked out how to make the coffee bit unscrew - messy and annoying!!

But, I got chatted up last night! I generally don't notice if a guy is chatting me up - I figure he is just chatting/being friendly/being nice. I've been told often that I've missed someone chatting me up

Anyway - yesterday I picked up an order from a food depot in the valley and the guy that was sorting it and I were chatting. And they have loads of out of date frozen food, so I was being offered lots of 'spare' food (I need a bigger freezer!!). The conversation got a bit smutty when sausages were mentioned but he seemed to get embarrassed so we moved on to other silly stuff, less smutty

He messaged me last night with some info I'd asked for and we spent the night chatting on messenger.


Was a bit weird that he thought "I would chew guys like him for breakfast" Not sure what that means or why he would think that But hey - dinner date on!

It all looked right, so a google on the company, the phone number etc and it transpired it's all above board.

So i rang them and checked it all out and i have a pension from 1999 that's valued currently at £60,000 LOL.

Nice.... result. I'm richer than i was this morning that's for sure.

My wife got a letter last week from Barclays bank. She worked for them for a year when she left school and paid into the compant pension scheme. She turns 60 next year so the pension matures and she is entitled to a lump sum of £3k

LOL got the figure, it was actually £70,000. Sadly i can't get any of it until i'm 55 which is 5 years away.... which is a shame as i wouldn't mind it today.

You can generally take a chunk of it tax free, about 25%. The rest you'd incur tax on.

You usually get tax relief on the contributions through various mechanisms, hence the restriction on when you can take it out again.

How does it work? Can you take it all at 55 or a pension based on the value?

I have two, no idea what they're worth, probably not that much combined, but I have no idea how I actually get the money once I'm old enough.

There's a calculator i'll try and find again which will tell you how much per month you'll get.

Obviously £70,000 won't get you much per year over 20 years, but this is just an added bonus for me, not my actual pension, so i'll likely be taking a chunk of it or adding it to my work pension and working it out from there. But when i hit 55 will be about the time my lad goes to Uni or something else, so i'd like to pull a chunk out either to help him or to buy a van to travel Europe to race MTBs lol.

My information came from HMRC after my wife died. Apparently the was a pension with Travis Perkins which I knew nothing about.

I got in touch with TP who told me it was from when my wife worked for Wickes. I suggested they give me the money and I'll give it to my grandchildren but I couldn't do that as it was a monthly pension.

It's now worth a magnificent £50 a month and at the current rate of exchange easily pays for my food for the month. They stopped paying it last year as I never got a letter wanting to know if I was still alive. It took a year but it's being paid again now - the outstanding payments went in to y bank account as a lump sum a couple of weeks ago.

I can see the value of all of my pension funds as they stood 15 mins ago just by looking at my phone. Ain't technology marvelous

Serious point though - if you're not sure what you've got and where the government website actually has some pretty useful tools for tracking them down, so long as you can remember the names of your employers.

Indeed, sadly i couldn't find another company i worked for, but i don't actually know if i signed up for their pension. I used the gov site to try and work it out, but no luck as of yet.

I've been having a few issues with my Shockwiz, it's a fancy fangled doo-dah that measures and tweaks suspension on MTBs, it's like having a suspension tech to hand every minute of the day.

Anyway, it'd been playing up and not connecting all the time.

I emailed Biketart where i bought it from to track when i'd bought it... Jan 2019 they told me... so i assumed it would be a no-go for warranty.

Send it in they said... so i did...

A brand new Shockwiz arrived in the post today.. I have no idea how long the warranty should be, but i assumed it wasn't in...

I was given a LOT of bacon yesterday!! It's out of date frozen stuff. Frozen at point of packing rather than bought fresh and frozen

Anyway - was a struggle to know if it would all go in the freezer (well, I kept some out for consumption this weekend!! LOL) and then headed to the freezer

Bacon all secured in the freezer, freezer a bit more sorted, I now have some white fish to add to the salmon steaks I was given (that I didn't get in the freezer) to make some fishcakes with

Not sure I'm ever going to eat all the bacon and will have to say no if I'm offered more!! LOL

Need to find a very cheap under counter freezer cos a local frozen food supplier has a load of out of date stuff they are giving away - wouldn't need to buy much food for the next few months if I could find a cheap freezer!!

Depends on the type of pension it is. You may not have to do the £x per year annuity type thing. If you can move it into a SIPP (taking the 25% tax free of course) you can then do flexible draw-down ie take what you want/or not as and when you want to (less tax).

Just going through all this malarkey with a company personal pension, AVCs and stuff that I've put off doing anything with for n. Still, it's all been growing nicely so

(By the time you get your mitts on yours it should be 80k+).

Or invest it into income biased funds and the like then live off the 'interest'. My parents do that, despite all their spending last year their pensions have gone up in value.
