One night in the Lakes...
Gonna have a quick one nighter in the Lake District to see what these mountain passes are all about. Going early Wednesday, back late Thursday. Got a route sort of sorted.
Straight to Ambleside then West and picking up the Wynnose Pass, this joins up with the Hardknott and over to Eskdale. Then maybe up to Whitehaven for food. East to Crummock waters and down to the Honister Pass towards Keswick ish. Over to Ullswater and the Kirkstone Pass, windermere and then a lovely pod for the night, unfurnished, that absolutely fuckall init.
Might pop to Devils Bridge Thursday and meander home. Got a mate coming on his newly purchased GS. Apparently it holds 33 litres and nearly 400 to a tank.
That's the plan anyway. Might be a bit ambitious though. Pic's to follow.
To add, I've been wanting to take the crf up there but needing more time for that, so for now, it's a trip for the tracer, not moved since Pembrey.

Re: One night in the Lakes...
If you got to Devil's Bridge the road to Sedbergh from there is a peach you can then go across to Hawes (plenty of food here) back to Ribblehead then through Horton to Settle (again good for food and fuel stop) - much better than the boring slog from Kirby Lonsdale to Settle on the A65

Re: One night in the Lakes...
Fantastic trip had. Set off Wednesday morning and in Newby Bridge just after 11am. Up the west side of Windermere, Hawkshead and then to the Wrynose pass. It joins up to the Hardknott pass. Brilliant scenery and great fun. On to Whitehaven for fish and chips and vary nice they were. Town's a bit of a shithole though.
East from Whitehaven to Crummock water and joining the Honister pass, again fabulous views everywhere. Looping back up to Keswick, nice town then down to Ambleside and the east side of Windermere. Very touristy and roads full of car's, stick to the West Side. Back to Newby Bridge at the bottom of Windermere and on to our digs for the night in Fell end caravan park near a place called Hale, just south of the lakes.
This morning over to Devils Bridge for breakfast (10 miles away ) then up to Sedbergh, Hawes, Aysgarth and down to Skipton, nice town. Mate's brother lives there so in for a cuppa. Then the drag home hitting all the traffic around Manchester, bloody nightmare.
I put action cam on the bike for the Hardknott pass not looked at it yet but might try and put some up..
462 happy miles.

From Bradford we did The Lakes 4 or 5 times a year for 20 years.
Lovely read and making me a bit jealous.

Re: One night in the Lakes...
It's a bit shaky but one's going up and one's coming down the Hardknott Pass. I would imagine it's a lot busier at weekends. Possibly more challenging with a big heavy bike and a big heavy passenger. Superb scenery of a lovely part of the world, possibly being equalled by the views of Skipton high school for girls at kicking out time, jeez.

Dunno if you had a look but the Roman fort at the top of Hardknott is well worth a look at.
Underfloor heated as well.
