The more I look at it, the more I like how it looks, if it weighed 150 KG it would be fun, sadly 200 KG just means it's heavy and slow

Mind you, if it's been tweaked a tad, you can have a lot of fun with 50-odd hp... it's hard to get round a 60 mph corner any faster than 60

My guess is that some of it will be in the steel frame and possibly some more in the wheels. Over its life, the GS500 went from the E to the F model and gained about 20kgs. The engine was identical, there was possibly a bit more metal in the can for the lower noise limits, a few alloy parts (such as the fork brace) turned to steel. Yeah,that weight is a deal breaker for me. Don't forget they are now weighed kerb weight fully fuelled and with oil, whereas for many years it was dry weight that was quoted.
The CBF500 - which was a popular DAS bike for a time - tipped the scales at just over 200 kgs kerb.

It's all the eco-gubbins manufacturers are required to fit to modern machines that have seen weight increases over the years. My eco compliant SH300i scooter punted out a heady 26 bhp,yet was heavier than my 04 ZX10R which was dynoed at 160 odd bhp. All those catalytic converters etc are damn heavy. Headers,cat and cans I took off my Z1000 were close to 20kgs,from memory.

I don't know if there's an answer to the weight thing, I'm guessing the emissions gubbins weighs the same on a 50bhp bike as a 200bhp bike.
But that engine does look very solid, but it could be like an old Japanese engine, if in doubt, reinforce with more (cheap, heavy) metal

There’s a lot of rubbish about weight, 200kgs is normal these days and can feel great.
My Enfield lost nearly 20kgs and was lively enough for some track fun with basic mods
