Marc Bola: Middlesbrough defender charged by FA over nine-year-old social media post

Post by weeksy »

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58435485

Seriously, a post from when he was 14???

Middlesbrough defender Marc Bola has been charged with misconduct by the FA over a nine-year-old social media post made when he was 14.

The charge relates to a post which "is insulting and/or abusive and/or improper", including a reference to sexual orientation.

The alleged post by 23-year-old Bola was made on 14 April 2012.

Bola, who has made five Championship appearances for Boro this season, has until 20 September to respond.

Should the case go to a hearing, an independent regulatory commission will take the circumstances of the post into account.

In March West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen was charged by the FA over a tweet written when he was aged 15 in 2012 which contained a racist term.

Bowen, who apologised for the post, was given a warning by the FA a month later and told to attend an FA education course.

It's an odd one. It doesn't sound like just one example of something he's done numerous times and it's not as if he's high profile enough that making an example of him makes much difference.

So probably just the fa and club covering their arses. It's not exactly a harsh punishment but, if it was me, I'd feel hard done by. And the papers are bound to tag him with 'well known homiphobe' for ever more.

You have missed the point.

Even if someone did complain, any FA investigation should be private and confidential.

Probably.
These things never are though even when it's a proper charge and proper law, let alone the FA version.
They've gone from knowingly corrupt to so open that they actually encourage exposure.

Yep, you're absolutely correct.

Of course, they could respond to the complainant that this was a 14 year old boy, 9 years ago and they couldn't actually give a shit.

It's a pound to a pinch of shit that the complainant has done things in the past which wouldn't pass scrutiny nowadays.

This woke shit has got to stop.

Yep, was he 'under' the FA when he wrote it?

I think this sort of thing is 'fans' of other teams looking to cause trouble for the opposition, trawling back through years and years of social media trying to find something, anything that might cause trouble.

Or It's easy column inches for newspapers when all you have to do is employ some trainee to scour Facebook for innuendo.

This is what happens when very small but very vocal social media minorities attempt to subvert the process of justice . It's the modern version of the lynch mob. Scum.

The FA needs to grow some balls, stop pandering to people who just want to cause trouble and stop throwing players to the wolves because it's easier.

I genuinely believe it has the appeal to tweak the wider majority though especially when it's being forced down our throats by online media in the form of click bait 'news'

How else do these total non stories get into the mainstream?

We're all susceptible to the click bait

This week I saw a story about Steve coogan "I nearly died" it said. I clicked on it because I like coogan. Turns out he "nearly died" decades ago when he was coked up to the nines. An exert from his autobiography. FFS.

The FA should come down on him like the proverbial ton of bricks and impose a penalty appropriate to his age when he committed this heinous crime:
Sit on the naughty step for half an hour and think about what he's done.
Write out 100 times "I must not say nasty things about the poofters".
Something like that.

Shame he didn't do something serious enough to get criminal charges at the time, then there would be a reporting ban and nobody allowed to publish it.

Dredging up what some 14 year old said on social media is a load of wank. We've told our lot not to post anything on social media that might possibly be held against them in the future.
