OK, toolheads. Imagine you've only got the odd tool, all picked up over the years from whatever garden centre when they were on offer, and things generally need replacing. Is it worth buying into these new-fangled battery things? What are the pros/cons? What's the battery life etc?

For instance, I have a chainsaw I use a fair bit but the starter spool thing has broken and I need to replace it, but it otherwise works ok I think. I also have one of those multi-head split-shaft things that I use for hedge trimming and strimming, but it's bastard heavy and a pain to use.

Sell me the idea of spending lots of money.

I have a Makita drill and copy rattle gun what is meant to be 540Nm. I do believe it is and i just did an engine swap in my van and it hardly struggled but i think i could do with more power for removal of older larger nuts so have my eye on a Makita 1000Nm gun. £200 quid for a gun only but i do have a few genuine batteries

Just opened the back of the van for you. That's short and long reach hedge cutters, strimmer and leaf blower. The ear defenders are for the petrol chainsaw.

I have just acquired a Makita impact driver to go with my Makita hammer drill. Even though they both use 18v Li-ion batteries, they are not interchangeable



I now own two chargers and four batteries

@Druid. I’ve had this problem where batteries were not interchangeable. Have good look at where the battery plugs into the drill. If I recall, one battery had two raised edges. I cut them off and all was good.

Last week I bought a 36v makita lawnmower. It does the job so v happy.

Got a Makita battery jig-saw and hammer drill but the biggie is the diamond core hammer drill (not battery) fortunately it has a clutch. If it didn't and it jammed, I'd be spinning around or have a dislocated wrist.
