I only commuted 8,277 miles in the last 12 months.
The 12 months before, 13,285 miles
And the 12 months before that, 20,940
Can we keep a rolling lockdown on please

Back from shopping with my daughter as she prepares for her first camping trip to Brighton with friends. She is so excited and wanting everything to go right. At least she won't be hungry.....

Hell no, I moved away whilst I was working there, OK so it was only supposed to be short term, but I'd sooner a long commute and live in the countryside than live in a big town or city.Yorick wrote: ↑Sat Aug 28, 2021 12:36 pmMove nearer work ?MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Sat Aug 28, 2021 11:59 am I only commuted 8,277 miles in the last 12 months.

Once we get back to 'normal', if we ever do, it'll only be around 13,000 a year, 2 days in 3 days @ home.

I was out for a road ride on my MTB yesterday, as I rounded a corner I spotted a guy strimming the verge, as I got close he stopped what he was doing so that none of the debris got flung in my direction.
What a considerate chap

Wife baked three cakes yesterday! Nothing with courgette in it too! Just fresh apples from neighbours tree (we gave her one of the cakes).
Wife is back to teaching today (Inset day) and I have 1 1/2 cakes to think about.

Let alone stones, etc., having heard about the sort of stuff that roadside strimming sometimes chops and sprays, that was very considerate.
Ok, along the side of motorways, but nappies seems to be a common thing to throw out. Also even bags of human excrement.

Oh it gets worse. Some drivers can't be bothered to stop, so piss in a bottle and throw that at road workers. So common it has a name: 'driver tizer'.

Was it a considerate Monsieur? If so, they do tend to have a different attitude to anything on 2 wheels. Although I have had camions pulling to one side to assist an overtake....and churning up the crap at the edge of the road. Still, it's the thought that counts.

First time I went to Fronch on the bike this behaviour surprised me, but not just the lorries, I had cars putting two wheels on the grass verge to let me past... also throwing up grass and dirt at 40mph!Count Steer wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 12:50 pm Although I have had camions pulling to one side to assist an overtake....and churning up the crap at the edge of the road

Riding in France has constantly been pleasantly surprising. From some chap in a v smart car pulling alongside at the lights, bzzzzt, window down....oooerrr.....'Welcome to France!'. Pulled up outside a potential place to stay - 'No Vacancies' sign. *sigh* Just about to set off again and Madame comes scooting out, 'M'sieu! m'sieu! and puts us up in the (really nice) annexe.
Did get an old geezer in a village - looked at the bike and explained that the sound of German flat twins rolling into the village still gave him les heebie-jeebies.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
Seeing all the kids this morning going to their first day at the local senior school. New shoes, spit-parting, school blazer with sleeves two inches too long, look of terror in their eyes....
Saw one boy walking with his mum and as we got to the crossing he turned around and said under his breath, 'You can go now!'. Obviously not cool to be seen with your mum at the school gate.

After 10 years, the dog does love me
Had trouble with water getting in diving mask due to big scar on my right temple. So jumped in the pool with 4 masks to try. All seemed OK till Mrs Y came out.
I just thought Elvis was just watching me as usual. But apparently when I submerged for a while he went mental barking
But stopped as soon as I surfaced each time. Double treats for him later
