Pussy. I went to an indoor soft play centre with baby D last week.

All those 4 year olds were observing social distancing on the climbing frames, honest.

True enough.

Social distancing is out the window innit? And hand sanitising is haunted by dusty and broken hand sanitiser bottles on pub benches.
You can't catch it off people outdoors any more, and you can't catch it indoors if you move quickly and only came in for a paper. It's the law.

A lot of my family now have covid. Took my wife an extra couple of days, but she fell eventually. Pretty inevitable really sharing the same bed with me etc. My wife and I are double jabbed and its not too bad, but my wife is deffo getting worse symptoms than i did. My 22 year old daughter was single jabbed and had a terrible 24/48 hour, but fien shortly afterwards. My Nephew in his 40s single jabbed and had cold symptoms and very listless. His wife of the same age no jabs and coping well with only mild cold symptoms. Their kids, 8 & 5, both have it with no problems at all. My anti-vaxxer Sister and her boyfriend, who were in all probability the spreaders, are very very ill with it. They deteriorated until they are basically bed ridden and being looked after by his Sister who has already had it. They are still resolute that the vaccination is dangerous for you though and you're better off without it. :? My 27 year old son is double jabbed and has not got it, nor has my daughters 25 year old double jabbed boyfriend. Very fortunately my 85 year old step Dad who has COPD swerved it to despite being at the same party that we all got it!!

So a snapshot showing the variety of outcomes across the ages with different jab levels from the same exposure. My Doctors say this variant seems to be hitting double jabbers easily but the vaccine appears to lessen the impact. Our little snapshot appears to agree with this...

I'm interested to find out if this was just unlucky outdoorsy covid or if there was Essex heavy petting going on that facilitated it.

About the same again on the other side of the family, and a couple of others, so about 25-30 all told? Only one person on the other side of the family got infected, but they were out with us for quite a while, which is why I think it came from my Sister and her boyfriend, especially as he has been in and out of London hospitals for tests.

As much as I've liked you for 20 years, I'm surprised by the BBQ.

Over here it's party central, but we only have 8 which is the law.

And we only invite double jobbers.

You must love your sister, but surprised you invited her.

No offence intended

None taken. It wasn't my BBQ, although I'm quite happy to host one now, even after this. It was my Nephews house warming BBQ which, ironically, had been postponed for well over a year because of covid! It was only after the restrictions were lifted so it was perfectly legal and the older/vulnerable were double jabbed was it agreed by all to go ahead with it!

You have to bear in mind that here there are no real restrictions and a lot of people aren't wearing masks in shops and pubs anymore, so exposure levels in public are there anyway. My wife works in a school alongside superspreading kids too. My wife and I still wear masks in shops though, but felt we'd be no more at risk at the BBQ than going shopping or sitting in a beer garden etc. You say you have a limit of 8, but that's a nonsense, as it only takes 1 to have covid to spread it and group size has no real bearing.

Whilst my Sister and boyfriend are anti-vaxxers, they aren't covid deniers. In the main they are also quite careful as he was being treated for what was really suspected lung cancer with shadows on his lung and coughing up blood, but had just been given the all clear on cancer with the shadows turning out to be amyloids.

As test kits are available freely, it makes sense, as a matter of routine, to self-test before attending anything like this.

You love to bitch about how the UK are doing it wrong... but you know places like France charge plenty for them too ? not just the UK ?
I spoke about this at the time, but just to remind you

PCR test in the UK in April £100- Drive 35 minutes to nearest place with appointments.
PCR test in France in April €60. But I never got sent a bill so the actual cost was €0 - Drive 10 minutes to most convenient place with appointments, 3 others with 15 minutes drive.

Antigen test in France last month €25, which will be fully reimbursed by the French version of NHS, so actual cost to me is €0

So no, Weeksy, France are not charging "plenty", but the UK are !
Free to you isn't free to everyone....

However, i don't think there's much point me discussing it more as people really are quite bitter in these threads.
£100 vrs €60 mate !

Trouble is, the lateral flow tests only work when you're displaying symptoms! They're more confirmation than detection.

Do that 3 times with different sets of people and it's the same isn't it? Or even with the same people assuming they all see lots of other people at other times. Granted it's not in 1 sitting but meet 2-3 times in a week or so and it pretty much is. And double jabbed is looking like no barrier to catching it just hopefully keeping you out of hospital.

Although to be fair a BBQ in Essex is nothing compared to the Reading and Leeds festivals with 200k people at them last weekend.

And my Son/Daughter go back to school tomorrow with 55 other kids every day. Joy.

Is that the case? I've not seen that mentioned.

Google finds questions about accuracy of reports, and accuracy of tests, but no definitive statement that tests won't pick up asymptomatic cases.

https://www.medicaldevice-network.com/f ... w-testing/

Last week, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) said that the practice of asymptomatic testing had been validated in three newly-published studies analysing the Innova LFTs used in the UK in a number of different scenarios.

These included: against variants of concern; on patients with high or low viral loads; as part of mass testing campaigns; in the hands of inexperienced users; and with different types of swabs.

Some researchers have now questioned the government’s messaging. In a BMJ editorial, Newcastle University professor of public health Allyson Pollock and Population Health Sciences Institute principal research associate Peter Roderick described the data available as “very limited”.

Pollok and Roderick also state that there is a lack of evidence to support the use of LFTs as “green light” tests to enable activities and that the best-case scenario for the tests would be to use them to rapidly detect infection in a healthcare setting.

UK ministers and some leading scientists have taken the line that LFTs can help pick up Covid-19 cases in people who don’t realise they have it, prompting them to self-isolate and preventing further disease spread.

However, critics say that the devices’ apparent propensity for false-negative results will lead to infected people incorrectly assuming they are virus-free, potentially spreading the disease to others in the community.

Pretty much what we were told and experienced. I took a LFT and PCR within hours and my PCR confirmed it but my original LFT was negative until the next day when I was displaying symptoms and the second LFT was positive. Asymptomatics may well be different?

We have c. 50 people round ours for a piss up next Saturday. All consenting adults and I'm not going to start asking people if they've been jabbed or not before letting them in.
