Re: It's only a teeny bit pink: GSX-R1100N
I Loves it.
Took it down the Strines and back up over Holme Moss today, must have over taken a dozen bikes. I like to think they thought the bike and myself was awesome (rather than a fat twat on and old bike going too fast).
I've not ridden a 'proper' (100bhp+) sports bike in anger for a long time, the corners seem to come to you much quicker than I remember, good job the brakes work well, it also trail brakes well enough without pushing wide. If you run a bit wide it doesn't really want to adjust the line like you can on more modern stuff. The brakes work well, but there's a lot of weight to stop.
Still not pushing too hard as I'm really not sure about the tyres and I really really don't want to crash it.
EDIT:
I also replaced the screws that hold the pillion cowl on with Allen bolts that the Allen key under the riders seat will fit

Re: It's only a teeny bit pink: GSX-R1100N
I played with the suspension a few weeks back and got the rear pre-load sorted.
Bike rode much better. So I decided to have a bit more of a play last week.
I put everything on the middle settings.
It rode like an utter dog.
I've found the workshop manual online and I've set it to the OEM Suzuki 'Firm' settings.
Well I tried to, the left hand compression adjuster in the lower left fork legs is seized solid and now I've fucked the slot up trying to get it to move.
I'll leave it for now, but come winter I might get the forks done professionally and get the adjuster sorted.
I was going to go out and test it all, but decided to wash the car first and it took so long that now I can't be bothered.

My memory of that era GSXRs is that the suspension adjusters did something, and it was quite easy to fuck the handling up, especially on the 1100, it has a fairly narrow spot where it handles okay.

Interestingly the default settings for C & R are printed on the bottom mount of the shock.
The book says set them to those numbers by winding them all the way in clockwise and counting the clicks out. You then take one click off both for the 'Firm' setting and add one to both for the 'Soft' setting.
There's 17 clicks of adjustment on the rear compression!!!

Probably years old oil in there too, which will be manky water by now. None of that will help any damping adjustment.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 4:20 pm I played with the suspension a few weeks back and got the rear pre-load sorted.

My FZR600R had something like 25 clicks on the rear rebound, you could only feel any difference in the last 3, Yamaha gave you loads of adjustment that did nothing, Suzuki damping adjustment did something and you could fuck up the handling.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 4:44 pm Interestingly the default settings for C & R are printed on the bottom mount of the shock.

Re: It's only a teeny bit pink: GSX-R1100N
Its probably a result of the simple way the clicks are generated. I imagine its just the screw moving past/over a little detent do-dad.
They need to make the adjuster thread long enough that the oil won't blow the thing back out again under pressure, but there's no way to turn off the clicks for the 'screwing in' but. So the first 20 clicks are just "taking up slack" and its only the last 5 - when the tip of the screw is actually near the port - which do anything.
But that's just a guess. They could just be shite

I reckon I could rock that.
Or maybe look like a total wazzock, could go either way but I'm fairly game so not fussed either way.
