That's not an airbox. It's storage for beard oil and beard comb. Hipsters have got to make sure their beard looks good after a ride :)

On the picture I was looking at the angle made it look like it was connected to the carbs.

It'll obviously never get ridden on even damp roads, they'll be cleaning it for a week if they do. (who the fuck fits a rear mudguard only a foot long??)

No. I have one on lone from Triumph at the moment and it's completely uninspiring. I can't imagine a colouring it in a bit and a few extras would make any difference.

I like some bits, but hate lots of other bits. On balance I prefer the original.

OK so it's not gonna set your pants on fire but I'd be surprised if its slow. Unless they gave you a restricted one?

It should still outrun most cars up to the limit?

I think people get spoiled by modern bikes sometimes :D

Me too. It does look nice from some angles, at a distance.

I saw an original 60s Triumph on the motorway the other day and it was struggling to keep up with the traffic and looked dead wee and nesh.

I must admit I did wonder about just how optimistic the Triumph dyno is. I rode the first of the 865s and it wouldn't have outrun my GS500E, supposedly with just over 50 hp. I know the Triumph is incredibly lardy - it was around 50 kgs heavier than the GS500, but 60+ hp should give a top speed of 120-ish...

Mind you, I wouldn't have been tempted to push it to the limit either, given the incredibly poor suspension. I hope the latest model handles better.

Its a pretty motorcyle I reckon.
As already mentioned, I'd want the full fat 1200 Motor from the Speed twin in there. if you're going to all that trouble, you might as well give it max bhp.
I really like the paint, I don't mind a Brown seat and there's nothing wrong with a French headlight. Some of the details aren't to my taste but I wouldn't mind having something like that in the Garage.

I had one of the original 790 T100s, and it was not slow! It needed it's neck wrung, but if you rode it enthusiastically it would keep up with most stuff in the real world. Many bikes were faster, on paper much faster, but on the road they rarely gained more that a minute or two over 50+ miles.

The real problem was that it only started delivering at about 6000 rpm, and the rev limit was at 7500 or thereabouts. A common tweak was to lift the limit to about 8500.
