Are old gloves any use?

Post by Scootabout »

I can't find my most recent pair of summer gloves and, being desperate to get out despite the heat, have disinterred a 20 year old pair of Furygans. They look and seem OK. In fact I'm not quite sure why I replaced them. It might only have been that I thought they were getting a bit old.

Do you think they're likely to be OK, or will they have degraded in some invisible way?

They're only an issue if you crash.

Try not to crash.

Yes, I've been working on that principle. But let's imagine, just hypothetically, that I did. What then?

I guess it's not the leather, but the cotton (or whatever it is) in the stitching that degrades over time and with wet/dry cycles. Worst case it fails and the come apart. I'd try not to crash :)

You've got nothing to lose, try pulling them apart by hand.

If they come to bits, then be glad you didn't wear them, if they're solid, wear them and don't worry.

They make excellent markers for Figure 8 exercises...
