Fairing respray

Post by BBB »

Afternoon.
The fairing on my old zx6r have seen better days. The left side looks like an attempt at a respray has gone wrong as the paint is all crazed and the wrong shade of green. The right hand side just looks a bit tired and chipped.

Both sides have cracks and bits missing so will need a bit of work.

Any ideas of how much it would cost? Appreciate this a bit vague.

The right side could possibly stay as is but the left is getting to me. Have looked on ebay at second hand but nothing has cropped up and looked at Chinese fairings but would like to keep it original and avoid landfill.

Based in Derby so have dream machine and race paint in Notts but suspect they may be on the premium side of things.

Thanks

Second hand fairing probably cheaper.

DIY if you just want it looking respectable rather than perfect. That way you won't feel broken when you accidentally drop a mountain bike against it.

Not me, I've resprayed cars after sorting rust out but the closest I've come to respraying fairing damage is colour coded gaffa tape. I decided it wasn't worth fighting the inevitable.

Quotes I've had on a similar bike were around £7-800.

I'd check if somewhere like Auchmarts do your model ZX6. A half decent Chinese ready painted fairing from a reputable supplier is probably the best bet.

£7-800 arse
Potentially £400 for one lower panel!
I'll have to learn to live with it in that case.

One of the Chinese suppliers has the correct decals it's just how close the colour is and the fit. Quality seems to be getting better but can still vary wildly.

Their quotes to paint panels will be more than the bike is probably worth

I have an auctmarts fairing on my track bike. I can't comment on the paint as mine is unpainted and white... it was the cheapest option. The fit was really good and the kit came with everything needed. The only thing is that the plastic is more brittle than OEM. I don't think they'll last as long but if you're careful with it it'll be ok. As has been said though, quality can vary from what I've heard.

Had a TRX tank resprayed after the ex knocked it off a box and severely dented it. Cost £180 about 6 years ago, localish painter and did a really good job. Can't find him anymore and don't remember what the company was called.
