Oddest/daftest thing you've ridden/driven?

Mussels said he'd ridden an electric trike (more info needed!) which is...unusual.

Mine was probably racing the old blue invalid carriages round an oval in front of a rehab centre*. Now they were scary things. IIRC they had 350cc single engines (and a mates brother transplanted an engine into a Series II Lambretta).

*We had a place near home where they rehab'd seriously injured people. They had a few bikers with no working legs between them. The place used to get good bands on that played for free and the place welcomed visitors as 'socialisation'. The blokes used to let us race their vehicles.

I think you may have imagined something far different from the truth.
It was fun in the way that if you ride it like a normal bike you'd fall off even in a straight line, a good drinking game. Once I worked out how to stay on then it was surprisingly good round corners.

The double decker wasn't particularly odd or daft. Although the single decker with the pre-select gearbox was pretty much both of those!!

But, I did get to drive the open top double decker for Guernseybus once. And the single decker a couple of times

One of these on a sunday afternoon while stationed at RAF Coltishall. Fitted with an air seat that supposedly keeps you level but in fact bounces all over the joint when you take the big beastie off road.

I was in the Fire Section having a brew and one of my mates said "fancy a go" ....

I had never driven anything bigger than a LWB Transit before then ....what could possibly go wrong

A sentinel loco. Drove like it was on rails.

2 x 12 cyl Rolls Royce engines. Weighed 60 tons and would happily pull 1500 tons. The rake of wagons wasn’t generally braked so could make stopping in the wet interesting.

A train at work, I was asked do you want a go at driving, it has a lever that you push forwards to go forwards and backwards to go backwards, and a brake, but I didn't get to use that.

2 x 12 cyl Rolls Royce engines. Weighed 60 tons and would happily pull 1500 tons. The rake of wagons wasn’t generally braked so could make stopping in the wet interesting.

Had some fun with the one at our place. It was getting on for 30 years ago when I worked there and it was old then. It didn’t have much in the way of safety features.

It had a a friction throttle and a gearbox that was forwards, neutral and reverse. One lad came in at 6am, fired it up and whacked open the throttle to build the air pressure up.

He then got off to change the points. He hadn’t noticed it was in gear and while he was off, the air pressure reached where it needed to, the gearbox clicked in and it shot off on its own at 30mph

When I worked on the railways I drove any number of diesel electrics, an old shunter for moving them round the yard, a battery loco from Hong Kong underground and loads of channel tunnel locos. Weirdest though was a unimog with a set of railway wheels as well which had to be lined up on rails and steering locked before lowering wheels. It never really did the job and was pulled off the rails many times pulling a 144ton loco

That is probably the worst thing on wheels I've ever experienced, even compared to those roller skates that are strapped to the bottom of shoes.

I guess most people would consider a BMW C1 'odd', but I kinda liked it (it definitely needed more power though, I often considered bodging an F650 single into one).

Dad's old bikes were just old rather than odd/daft, although the D1 Bantam was 'interesting' to ride in modern traffic.

Rolls Royce 20/25 was the oddest with its adjustable fuelling and timing on the steering wheel!

CR500 was the daftest. I remember trying to ride it down a country loan with the thing rearing its head in every gear, attempting to smack me in the face! I kept thinking, how the fuck does someone race this - in wet mud!!
