Motorcycle Jeans

I'm considering getting some of those bike jeans which look like 'normal' ones. Partly cause they'll look the part on my auld Bonnie and partly cause I'm allowed to wear jeans to work and hence it's more convenient.

It's been a long time since I looked at them. I see now that you can get 'single layer' ones with higher slide times than leather and AAA ratings. Is that really the case or is it marketing smoke and mirrors?

On the one hand that seems remarkable, but on the other I've worked with a lot of high performance fibres in my time so I can believe such things are possible.

I still use the Levi's of invincibility, but looking at M/C Jeans in bike stores it looks like they've come a long way. Like with most riding gear, I think it probably comes down to what fits well and what is most comfortable.

They fit like a slim fit chino and look a bit more office suitable.

I've not slid up the road on my arse in them yet but they feel a lot sturdier than my Levi 511 jeans and stop a lot more of the wind too. If you wash them with graingers / nikwax stuff water beads a little on them too - not waterproof by any means but can buy you 5 mins if your commute is short.

I'd be more worried about light colours getting covered jn dead bugs and road shite

I wear the Levis of Power too. I'm just thinking maybe I should not do that, but I don't want to spend 200 notes on something which isn't actually any better than said Levis.

I've a number of pairs of differing types.
Rokker revolution are incredible - totally waterproof, single layer with a guarantee that if you manage to put a hole in it, they'll replace then FOC.
Course combats from XL Moto, soft, warm, slim fit, cheap and comfy.
BKS denim, loose fit, reasonably priced and comfy.
A*'s, same as BKS but slim fit.
Knox Richmond, bought to wear with brogue style boots for work/short runs into town or to the pub on a fri eve but odd fit, no doubt they's be good in a crash but whoever worked out the cut needs a slap. Unless you're Chris Boardman they look odd. Would suit sprint cyclists or weightlifters but not the racing snake build. These ar the only ones I regret buying and I missed the returns window on them so they sit in the wardrobe as a reminder that not all manufacturers get it right.

Bullit covert jeans are ace. AAA but not thick, they are the Tactical AA single layer Jean with small second layer sections in the danger spots. They are much thinner and less bulky than my older Bullit SR6 jeans which had a fairly thick lining in. They are also much better fitting and water resistant. They come up big in the waist so I went down a size and they fitted perfectly. I recommended them to my mate who then crash tested them for me I reckon he hit the deck probably at 25 maybe 30 and they were totally unmarked. Only anecdotal but made me feel reasonably happy they should do their job. Only 99 quid too

There's a physical branch of Sportsbikeshop here in MK, I might as well drop in there. I was just curious to know if these jeans are legit, i.e. are they actually any good as protection.

I've used armoured jeans for years,the first set were Shoshoni. I don't think the company exists currently.

These RST are my current set,I don't even own leathers now. All day comfort Summer or Winter. Pricey,but watch for deals. Fit is everything,stuff like Hood fit me like a bag.

I ended up with a pair of PMJ Deux, £206 in Sportbikeshop.

They are single layer, I.e. the whole lot is abrasion resistant material, rather than regular jeans with extra patches sewn in. Thus they feel pretty much like normal jeans when you wear them.

They look the part, but I would be a bit wary of sliding on my arse in something made of 65% polyester. As I understand it the A&E treatment for getting melted plastic out of abrasions is not pleasant.

Since found some Australian bikers gear chino like trousers with aramid in them and pockets for knee armour , a bit more expensive and warmer but fit well and look OK in the office with a shirt

I have a pair of Bull It black Cargo jeans with leg pockets ....really comfortable with aramid liners and great for teaching and walking about in as they look like a normal pair of jeans

Supposedly AA rated but have not lobbed them down the road to see how they cope

Cost me about 100 quid in the Infinty winter sale but retail is a fair bit more normally
