Aye. Until someone decided that the usage was 'obsolete' in that area they were all part of the semitic tribes. The media would be able to tell - they'd be clustered around the Palestinian kid, cameras clicking away.

Oh they'd have a choice of 20 or more in any given location. Hospital, refugee camp, humanitarian aid convoy.....pick your ages. 3yrs old? No problem, take your pick.

It was always the rule when the Gremlinette was at school. They could take their phones in, but it would be confiscated if they were seen during the school day, which I thought was perfectly reasonable.
Some of the parents thought this was utterly draconian and almost an infringement of their kid's human rights. In fairness, those parents were as thick as fucking mince, so I suppose they didn't want Tyrone or Harmony getting too well educated for their own good, eh?

School administrators always want to ban something. We weren't allowed to use ball point pens. I have no idea why except that they were relatively new.Yorick wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 3:10 pm Ex teacher sat next to me thinks this is an excellent new rule..

And I've just remembered...
My father and his schoolmates weren't allowed to run in the school playground. That was 100 years ago. As I said, schools always want to ban something, presumably, just because they can.

Our school banned Bay City Rollers clothing.
I was not badly affected by the ban.

In the 80s the deputy head of the comprehensive I was at was convinced that the non-school-issue white hi-top trainers I insisted on wearing was a sign of catastrophic breakdown in civilisation. Never seen anyone quite so apoplectic with rage, bright red and spitting feathers.
It would have been much more effective if he'd told me I looked a bit of a twat.

Re: In todays news...
We were constantly being told this, that and the other thing were 'against school rules'. If we asked to see these 'rules' we were accused of being insubordinate.
Biros were the work of the devil. Zounds and gadzooks we even had inkwells when I first started there!
It was a bit like Ghormenghast though.

They had a mini-skirt rule, which prescribed a maximum distance between knee and hem.
A ferocious old English mistress (whose name was Minnie, oddly enough) patrolled the corridors with a ruler, measuring girls’ exposed thigh.

Re: In todays news...
Far too many rules to list, the most stupid was the one about distance between boys and girls on the school field. 'Twas O level season, and a mixed group of us were sat around in the sun testing each other on the next exam, due in about 1/2 an hour. Then Mr Twat, senior master, comes around insisting that we all keep a minimum distance of IIRC 6 feet between boys and girls. Trust me, with an English Lit exam due imminently we were more concerned with remembering the war poets than engaging in any hanky panky.
Then there was the desk search for fireworks. None of us had any in school, but several girls were concerned that the had ST's/Tampax in their desks, and they knew the teacher doing the searching would hold them up and ask loudly what these were, just to embarass them. He was a sarky bugger. Anyway I told a couple of girls that I was friendly with to get them them all to put anything like that in my desk and just watch. Sure enough said teacher dragged out a pack of STs and started the 'What's this?" so I started on a detailed explanation of female anatomy and human reproduction, to the delight of the rest of the class. He never forgave me for that.
