Re: In todays news...
Have we entered a time warp where 'today' is 4th Feb 2016?

A self centred mad old bat friend of my sister's phoned for an ambulance because she hadn't had a shit for two days and was worried.

Re: In todays news...
Mate of mine was a GP, and reckoned the rule of thirds.
1/3 of patients were just timewasters.
1/3 of patients were lonely, and needed a chat.
and 1/3 of patients were actually ill, or had symptoms that needed investigating.
He got so fed up wasting time on the 2/3 he pissed off to Canada.

Re: In todays news...
Strange reporting.
They're telling us that folk are starting selling pints of wine. Then feel the need to say it will be served in 568 ml bottles.
Why not say it will be served in pint bottles ?

Oh well, it makes up for the loss of the fishing industry etc. (Cue MLSP....they knew what they were voting for, blue passports, pint bottles of fizz like Churchill had etc).Yorick wrote: ↑Thu Dec 28, 2023 6:14 pm Strange reporting.

Is that really the best that the Brexit apologists can do? That and blue passports, of course.

I don't want a pint bottle of wine, a 2-pint bottle might be of interest. Or round it down to a litre and bobs-yer-uncle.Yorick wrote: ↑Thu Dec 28, 2023 6:14 pm Strange reporting.

Re: In todays news...
I think selling wine in pint bottles could have been easily achieved without Brexit. It's not like the pint was removed from available weights and measures by those nasty unelected EU bureaucrats.

Nope, then we'd have fallen foul / failed to draft into law DIRECTIVE 2007/45/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 5 September 2007 laying down rules on nominal quantities for prepacked products, repealing Council Directives 75/106/EEC and 80/232/EEC, and amending Council Directive 76/211/EEC

Re: In todays news...
I'll have a read through it later, but I believe it only affects good destined for the single market as a whole and does not affect domestic markets. Bear in mind that stuff like this is agreed by all member states, if it affected the pint as a measure then the UK would have vetoed it or opted out.MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Fri Dec 29, 2023 11:54 amNope, then we'd have fallen foul / failed to draft into law DIRECTIVE 2007/45/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 5 September 2007 laying down rules on nominal quantities for prepacked products, repealing Council Directives 75/106/EEC and 80/232/EEC, and amending Council Directive 76/211/EEC

Re: In todays news...
It's an EU directive, it scraps national measurement's and each member state would have been expected to write it into their own national legislation within a period of two years. It applies to pre-packaged goods, so beer in a pint wasn't within its scope, I believe we got a historical opt out for milk but never cared enough to look.Pirahna wrote: ↑Fri Dec 29, 2023 12:32 pmI'll have a read through it later, but I believe it only affects good destined for the single market as a whole and does not affect domestic markets. If you do read it you should also pick up the consultations and court case rulings too as it appears it wasn't well received.
Long story short, who cares what volume any liquid is sold in providing the actual volume is visible and the consumer can see it / see what the price per 100ml is..

That ^ As long as it comes in convenient sizes. I don't want to have to purchase wine in barrels.MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Fri Dec 29, 2023 1:11 pm Long story short, who cares what volume any liquid is sold in providing the actual volume is visible and the consumer can see it / see what the price per 100ml is..

Re: In todays news...
The story is about pilot errors causing the plane crash.
But this is the scary bit...
For the past decade, the European Union has banned Nepalese airlines from its airspace over safety concerns.
