Re: In todays news...
Saw my latest issued credit cards had changed from Visa to MasterCard but thought nothing of it. Just looked and now see that none of my credit cards are Visa. Good call.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 9:34 am Mine and the wife's Santander debit cards have changed from Visa to Mastercard recently. I wonder if that's down to the Visa charges too?
Although that article only mentions credit not debit cards.

I wonder if Visa can afford to lose Amazon's business.

Lots and lots and lots of companies pay for AWS services by credit card. It could be more painful for them than people buying books and dog beds.

The story only references Amazon.com, not Amazon, or Amazon.co.uk, not sure how they're structured, and to be fair it makes no nevermind to me either way.Saga Lout wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 10:00 amVisa credit cards issued in the UK. Re: In todays news...
I remember the GOOD OLD DAYS™ when Barclaycard decided to give their Visa card holders a Mastercard as well so I got two cards. Then they decided to go back to just Visa and they converted all the Matercards to Visa. So I now have two Barclays Visa cards, a Visa card from my bank and a Mastercard from Tesco. Which means I can still buy stuff from Amazon.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 4:16 pmAny one of the networks is prone to falling over. But I wonder who'll suffer most, Amazon or Visa.

Visa. The banks and CC companies will start an exodus away from visa to MC if their customers can’t use them on Amazon.
And customers will go down the MC route if they get a new card.
I expect visa will capitulate at some point before the ban kicks in.

I wonder if Amex will make a serious attempt to gai market share? AFAIK they are more expensive still, and many retailers don't accept them.wheelnut wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 7:16 pm ............The banks and CC companies will start an exodus away from visa to MC if their customers can’t use them on Amazon.

Interestingly, a few years back in the USA I found it hard to use Visa, not sure if that is still true.

Visa via PayPal would circumvent it, wouldn't it?

It would (I think!) but you lose the protection of using a CC.

Re: In todays news...
Amazon is quite well integrated with Amex. It links into your Amex Points and you can use the points against purchases and you get points for purchases. It's the only card I have registered with them for that reason...and I have to pay it off each month which is good discipline.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 7:19 pmI wonder if Amex will make a serious attempt to gai market share? Wasn't Visa started by Barclays or do I misremember? Maybe why it's not so big in the USA?
Edit: I misremembered. Barclays had Barclaycard, a bunch of others inc Natwest had Access. Visa is American.

Non-story that had me scratching my head:
Fussy eating kid, questionable parenting and the national crisis that is over whelming the country: shortage of Walkers Crisps.

"Ava suffers from a number of conditions, including avoidant or restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID).
According to her mother, she only eats these crisps, toastie waffles and a specific kind of baby fruit puree.
She only drinks sweetened almond milk and a prescription vitamin mix."
