That has to be a load of bollocks. He resigned as an MP and the only way he can be sacked as an MP is by his constituents 'recalling' him. Did his constituents vote to remove him?
Several journalists, up to and including the deputy political editor of one of the daily papers, had tweeted it as a fact.

I would guess if the glorious leader and the party seniors decided to throw you under a bus to save face there's not a lot of choice in the matter is there?

Edit: although it is more likely that, reading it again, he hadn't found out about the fact he would have to resign than the resignation itself...

He could have not resigned, if he genuinely believed he'd done no wrong. I'm sure an honest review would have exonerated him ;)

Or do politicians become corrupt folk?
Some of both probably Yorick. Power corrupts some then others see the opportunities and want a slice of the action. I'm sure a lot of them aren't bent but it must be pretty depressing if you are a conviction politician of any political persuasion and you look around the rest in the HoP (both houses).

In the Culture (and to some extent the Polity), Artificial Intelligence's run the whole shebang, leaving the humans (etal) to doss about hand gliding and shit.

Obviously there's the chance that AI's might not actually give a fuck about us, but hey how's that different to modern UK government?

The truly benevolent dictator....

That's also the end of I, Robot. Well the book anyway, in the film they changed it 180 and hence missed the point entirely.

[pedant]MPs can't resign, it's against the rules. They apply for the position of Crown Steward and Bailiff for the Chiltern Hundreds or Crown Steward and Bailiff of the Manor of Northstead which, being offices of profit under the Crown, require MPs to vacate their seats. [/pedant]

As I understand it that's exactly the problem, he genuinely does believe that he's done nothing wrong. He evidently believes that doing something for the greater good (as he sees it) justifies breaking Parliamentary corruption rules.

What appears to have conveniently escaped Owen Paterson is that he could have canvassed his beliefs about the safety or otherwise of certain products without being paid £100,000 per year by competing companies.

And while we're talking about Owen Paterson, I find it difficult to believe that his wife, apparently a happily married wife and mother, would commit suicide without there being a lot more behind it which we're not party to.

Well that's definitely more his fault than mine, 'cause I'd never even heard of him until this.

Greta Thunberg says COP26 was a failure. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland- ... t-59165781

At last, something we can agree on. Although why she would have expected anything else after the precedents set by COPs 1 to 25 I don't know.

I reckon once the human population starts to eat less meat, travel less, freeze in their own home's, waste less, not buy the cheapest and reduce their numbers, not a lot will change. 🌍

According to sources quoted by the Beeb the top richest countries are by far the biggest source of pollution.

More people is of course going to be more problem, but just saying over population is the issue is giving a lot of people a free pass.

The UN expect world population to peak in the second half of this century. Its already starting to do that in developed countries.

Whether that actually happens is of course a bit more of a guess, but its not all doom and gloom.
