So now it begins.Undersea 'blasts' recorded at same time Russia-Germany gas pipelines damaged
The Kremlin and others say they can't rule out sabotage after "unprecedented" damage was caused to both Nord Streams 1 and 2 - a day before a new pipeline from Norwegian gas fields carrying gas to Europe is due to open.

Best theory I've heard is that it was the Russians......and it was the wrong pipeline and the new Norway-Poland pipeline was the target. (Which would be par for the course at the moment).

Re: In todays news...
Apparently, when Sunak was chancellor he froze the personal tax allowance, the amount of money you can earn before paying tax. It's usual for this to rise in line with inflation, I believe it's frozen until 2025. The amount of tax revenue this will generate makes the scraping of the top rated look like a drop in the ocean. Yet another thing to fuck the poor.Asian Boss wrote: ↑Tue Sep 27, 2022 5:48 pm I wonder if the northern poor are please with what the government they voted in to GET IT DONE have done to the economy?

Question: how can tax cuts be made that benefit only the "poor"?Asian Boss wrote: ↑Tue Sep 27, 2022 5:48 pm I wonder if the northern poor are please with what the government they voted in to GET IT DONE have done to the economy?

Use a salary based sliding scale on the personal allowance. The lowest earners get a greater allowance than those earning more. The more you earn the earlier you start paying tax.irie wrote: ↑Tue Sep 27, 2022 8:13 pmQuestion: how can tax cuts be made that benefit only the "poor"?Asian Boss wrote: ↑Tue Sep 27, 2022 5:48 pm I wonder if the northern poor are please with what the government they voted in to GET IT DONE have done to the economy?

Re: In todays news...
It's a matter of benefit/burden relative to resources rather than one but not the other. ie progressive/regressive taxation. Raising the lower earnings limit would make more difference if you're on £25k than on £250k. Might make some jobs more attractive too if people keep a bit more of what they earn. Freezing it rather than adjusting in line with inflation seemed extremely regressive.irie wrote: ↑Tue Sep 27, 2022 8:13 pmQuestion: how can tax cuts be made that benefit only the "poor"?Asian Boss wrote: ↑Tue Sep 27, 2022 5:48 pm I wonder if the northern poor are please with what the government they voted in to GET IT DONE have done to the economy?

They knew what they were voting for. This is what they were voting for. The IMF complained about austerity and then Brexit, this is hardly unusual.Pirahna wrote: ↑Wed Sep 28, 2022 8:09 am It seems last weeks mini budget was so well thought out even the IMF have felt the need to comment.
