I suppose he's saved the state the cost of a trial, years of prison time and multiple appeals.
I watched the video.

I've always had problems learning languages, French at school, German as a squaddie and now Turkish as an old man, my brain is not wired that way.

Learning North Carolinaese is going to be impossible.

Five Air Force reservists have been disciplined after using a military aircraft to make an unauthorized landing at Martha’s Vineyard in March to pick up a crew member’s vintage motorcycle, the Air Force’s 403rd Wing announced on Wednesday.

After multiple reports and news articles about a green meteor seen around west England/south Wales on 12th May, (UK Meteor Network Archive https://archive.ukmeteornetwork.co.uk/r ... index.html) I woke up to lots of Facebook posts about another one yesterday evening from the south coast.

If anyone reports seeing a strange, large carnivorous plant I'm out of here - don't look up

Who's this then? Conservative MP arrested on suspicion of rape
An unnamed Conservative MP has been arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual assault.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed a man was in custody over allegations dating back to between 2002 and 2009.

The Conservative Party said he had been asked by the chief whip not to attend Parliament while an investigation is ongoing.

The man also faces allegations of an abuse of position of trust and misconduct in a public office.

A Met Police spokesman would not confirm the identity of the man or if he was an MP, but published a statement, saying: "In January 2020, the Met received a report relating to alleged sexual offences having been committed between 2002 and 2009.

"The offences are alleged to have occurred in London."

He added: "A man... was arrested on suspicion of indecent assault, sexual assault, rape, abuse of position of trust and misconduct in public office."

So, how do you think this would have gone down with the Plod in the UK?

The scrotes would probably be offered legal aid to sue the driver and he would have been looking at a five year stretch... :P

Fools and their money - Leaky Gucci and Adidas 'sun umbrella' sparks China outcry
A parasol set to be sold in China by top western brands Gucci and Adidas for 11,100 yuan (£1,329) is causing an outcry for not keeping out the rain.

Criticism of the item the firms call a "sun umbrella" has gone viral on the Chinese social media platform Weibo.

It comes as Gucci's website says it is "not waterproof and is meant for sun protection or decorative use".

The parasol is part of a joint collection that is being promoted online ahead of its release next month.

A hashtag on Weibo which translates to "the collaboration umbrella being sold for 11,100 yuan is not waterproof," has so far had more than 140 million views.

One user called the parasol "a very big but useless fashion statement".

"As long as I'm poor, they won't be able to trick me into paying for this," another user said.

I recently tried to explain to Baby D (4) that a parasol is indeed a "Sun Umbrella" and won't keep the rain out  She asked "why would you want an umbrella which doesn't' stop the rain?".

Out of the mouths of babes.

Etymology: Umbrella

""hand-held portable canopy which opens and folds," c. 1600, first attested in Donne's letters, from Italian ombrello, from Late Latin umbrella, altered (by influence of umbra) from Latin umbella "sunshade, parasol," diminutive of umbra "shade, shadow" (see umbrage)."

Going back to its roots, that's all. ;)

I can go back to being a city boy!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-61505857

Eight new cities are being created for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, with at least one in every UK nation - and on the Falkland Islands and Isle of Man.

Milton Keynes in England, Dunfermline in Scotland, Bangor in Northern Ireland and Wrexham in Wales all get the title.

It is a first for places in an Overseas Territory - Stanley, in the Falklands - and a crown dependency - Douglas, in the Isle of Man - to win city status.

Colchester and Doncaster complete the list getting the royal honour.

It's city inflation. Like grade inflation. Like Iccy's degree-style-qualification in hand tools and riveting obtained remotely from the Karachi Technical College and Institute of Minor Repairs.

Maybe not quite today's news, but it popped up on RTE this morning - World's most expensive car sells for €135m
A 1955 Mercedes-Benz, one of only two such versions in existence, was auctioned off earlier this month for a whopping €135m, making it the world's most expensive car ever sold.

Classic car auction house, RM Sotheby's said in a statement: "A 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe from 1955 has been sold at auction for a record price of €135,000,000 to a private collector."

The vehicle sold for almost triple the previous record, which was set in 2018 by a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO that fetched over US$48m.

RM Sotheby's said the invitation-only auction took place on 5 May at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany.

The car is one of just two prototypes built by the Mercedes-Benz racing department and is named after its creator and chief engineer, Rudolf Uhlenhaut.

There's a 300SL on show at Mercedes World at Brooklands. It's a beautiful thing, I don't know how different the SLR is?
