Gremlin is right, they all need burning and then burning again. And anyone who tries to put themselves in front of a car being driven by an angry person is a fucking tit. They may not deserve to be run over but they'd have to be a bit thick to not expect it.
The driver overtook them then stopped (or slowed right down) in front of them. What are they supposed to do other than go past? Wait behind for him to reverse into them?

Was there a hazard in the road, had the rest of the pelaton slowed down, we don't friggin' know why the car slowed.

They could have just stopped further back, not started an argument, let him drive off, then carried on without getting run over. If they hadn't approached him he wouldn't even have the opportunity to reverse into them.

The cyclists may well have been the initial victims, but they were totally free to diffuse the situation. They chose not to and look what happened.

If they'd just stopped further back the driver would have probably said "whatever.....bloody cyclists!" and driven off.

It's hard to tell from the video, the driver could have had a good reason to stop and the cyclists decided to educate him in unnecessary overtakes, or he could have stopped just to moan at the cyclists
CCTV is easy to manipulate if you know you are being filmed, the cyclists could have threatened or baited the driver and still looked like victims.
The driver clearly looks like a nasty piece of work but we only have the cyclists video to go by.

All of them could have done things differently with different results.

For example the person who edited the footage to show only what he/she wanted us to see could have shown us the 5 minutes prior where the cyclists were perhaps acting like a whole bunch of prats, provoking the car driver. I really can't be done with these 'holier than thou' videos. All they tell us is that 'action cameras' are owned and operated by self righteous arseholes.

Most accidents / incidents could almost certainly be avoided if people do / did things a bit differently on the approach to it.

The driver clearly brake-tested them, you can tell by the reactions of the cyclists. According to the cyclist who was attacked, the driver was annoyed that they weren't riding single file and he tried to explain why they ride double on twisty sections (to deter dangerous overtaking) when the driver grabbed him and started throwing punches (while still in a moving vehicle which then knocked the cyclist's wife off her bike).
The driver had the opportunity to say 'whatever...bloody cyclists!' when he overtook them, but instead chose to confront them.

Video shows the cyclist grabbing the car first.

Let me be clear, I don't think any of them are the victim here. They all had the opportunity to not escalate and they all failed.

If the cyclist hadn't engaged the driver in an argument nothing would have happend.

If the driver hadn't argued back nothing would have happened.

If the driver hadn't stopped suddenly nothing would have happened.

If the cyclists had moved over for a clearly impatient driver nothing would have happened.

If the cyclist hadnt grabbed onto the car things wouldn't have escalated. Quite why you'd hang to a car which has just brake checked you and is giving you the finger is beyond me. In fact, AIUI, grabbing hold of something which is connected to / occupied by another person can be deemed as assault, so you could well argue the cyclist is the one guilty of assault here cause they threw the first punch, so to speak.

If the driver had just stopped no-one would have got run over.

There are no victims here, just a bunch of dicks who had every chance to not get in a fight. Any injuries sustained are a result of their own foolishness IMO.

Do you mean riding single file? As in let's make the group twice as long and twice as difficult to overtake. Yeah, that's a good idea.

Yeah you’ve got a point. Let’s limit the number that can ride in a group on the roads to a number that doesn’t cause so much of a hazard.

They could stop. There's an idea.

You know, act like the world doesn't revolve around them for 2s and hence avoid getting in a barny which results in someone getting run over. Or even accept they maybe even if they are doing nothing wrong not everyone else is perfect. Discretion is the better part of valour and all that.

"Right" doesn't count for much when the annoyed person behind you just has to twitch their foot or hand a bit to ruin your day.

Like gremlin said, they all need burning.

Another one of your genius ideas. :D

Mr D: Cyclists should stop to let impatient drivers past.
Cyclist: How can you tell if a driver is impatient?
Mr D: You can't. Just stop for every driver.

A two hour ride is going to take all day.

Meh....say what you will. I've never been te victim of road rage despite encountering just as much bad driving as the next man.

The point is, there is plenty both parties could have done to avoid the whole thing.

Nothing like a nice conspiracy, eh? :wtf:

French ambassador likens submarine deal cancellation to ‘treason’

‘We have been blind-sided intentionally for 18 months,’ French Ambassador to Australia Jean-Pierre Thébault said, citing media reports.

Australia to France: You knew we had doubts about submarine deal

"I think they would have had every reason to know that we had deep and grave concerns that the capability being delivered by the Attack Class submarine was not going to meet our strategic interests," Australia's Prime Minister Scott Morrison told reporters Sunday, according to Agence-France Presse.
Australians, for their part, note the country's defense secretary, Greg Moriarty, publicly signaled in June that Canberra was considering its options. The Australian government also refused in April to sign a contract for the next phase of the French submarine project, asking for certain conditions to be met by September.
The French are behaving like miffed adolescents in the playground. Oh dear.

Yeah, I did too.

They're trying to get a rise out of OZ, unsuccessfully it would seem.

A bicycle isn't a hazard, it's a vehicle. When I was a learner driver I learnt how to deal with other vehicles on the road. It's not difficult.

We're the most Eastern island. I think La Palma is about 300 miles away.

It's the only island I've not been to.
