So if you're born a particularly masculine sort of female and you compete, you're a cheat?
You can't just be a women who innocently liked sport and found they were good at it partly because of their body shape, type etc?
Imagine being an athlete who worked hard for something only for people who hadn't even heard of you 5 minutes ago to say you must be a cheat. Or even worse, a man who enters competitions to beat up women.

Now I may no understand a lot of this gender stuff, but some on here are very out of touch with society of the current era.

Re: In todays news...
Absolutely not! I actually have no problem at all with transvestites, lit. men who want to dress like women. I have no issue with autogynephilia either among adults. As I said earlier, one of the many tricks to convincing people what the new normal is is to change the meaning of words or invent new words to suit the narrative. Currently that includes made up nonsense regarding "gender identity". OK so <whatever> if people want to "identify" as "transgender" I guess that's fine too.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2024 5:17 pm So if you're born a particularly masculine sort of female and you compete, you're a cheat?

Imagine being an athlete who worked hard for something only for people who hadn't even heard of you 5 minutes ago to say you must be a cheat. Or even worse, a man who enters competitions to beat up women.
In my opinion however, there has been an explosion in a form of mental illness as a result of the obsession with identity politics driven by a sort of mind virus being perpetrated by the mainstream media. But I'm an old dog and you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Even so, this new world belongs to the new generation and if they want an infinite number of "genders" to identify with, I'm ok with that too.
Where I draw the line is with the science. A man has a penis, a woman has a vagina. That takes care of, what, 99% of humans? The odd percent who have some lit. abnormality are a special case and as such should be assessed on their merits regarding their eligibility for male or female sports. The first thing I'd do under those circumstances is a DNA test. XX or XY is the determining factor.
Again in my opinion, from a strictly clinical/medical perspective, if a person of indeterminate sex has the advantage of male Y chromosome development or the massive difference in testosterone level, they should not be allowed to compete as a woman. It is unfair on half of the entire world population! The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. They can always compete in mens sports....
I appreciate there is a need therefore to set a testosterone level which a defined woman could not possibly expect to achieve without doping. My (admittedly ignorant) understanding is, the difference between men and women regards testosterone is MASSIVE. Maybe someone could put me right on that.
Finally though, I can't help but reach for the ban hammer. A regular man, XY chromosome, replete with penis, even a micropenis (no offence @yorick) or internal male genitalia who "decides" they are a woman merely by saying so, should not be allowed to compete in womens sports. As a digression they should not be put in female prisons or allowed to frequent females only changing rooms or toilets either.
I would go further to suggest that logically, they would not want to enter into female sporting events. If they insist that "gender" is such a fluid and subjective label that there is no biological or medical difference so that the very term "man" or "woman" is meaningless, then surely they would object to sport having any such a division in the first place. Similarly if they do not recognise the practical physical differences between male/female athletic abilities then they should be perfectly happy to be placed in either group.
Ergo, if someone has all of the attributes of a man but "identifies" as a woman, the best compromise is to place them into the male category. That would mean biological women would be happy not to have to compete with a man identifying as a woman and the man identifying as a woman should be happy to be placed in the male arena since they don't believe there is any measurable, physical difference.
It's been nice knowing you. Have a Merry Christmas.
err, I mean "Happy Holidays" of course...

So the number of women accusing Al Fayed of abusing them is upto 111, Private Eye and IIRC Vanity Fair reported on this years ago.Saga Lout wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 1:08 pm You can say what you like about Mohamed Al-Fayed, you can make all kinds of allegations. Theres been several people who enabled his behavior and there were complaints into the Met (who did fuckalll because, hell it was the Met) decades ago.
Now that its been on TV many more women (including one that was 13 at the time of the offence) stood up to what will have been for them years of shame and mental anguish.
I have been close to a couple of women who have been raped and from talking to them I thi k its faaar more common than some people realise. My guess is that its about a third of women have been sexually assaulted in some way so not just golddiggers as you seem to suggest
If its a third of women then thats also a lot of perpetrators, and if theres a lot who am I more inclined to be suspicious about? They would be the ones gaslighting any accusers stories they hear about?
As I heard a bit .ore on this story on the radio today I did a search cos I remembered it being discussed, turns out it was your post because, well of course it was.

Re: In todays news...
It's also important to realise and/or recognise that the whole concept of "powerful rich man takes advantage over women" is still here with people who are, you know, alive. Such men trade heavily on the fact many women are too afraid to come forward, or worried no-one will believe them.
So yeah it's true that Al Fayed can't be punished for his crimes now (at least, not by any of us mortals) but it's all part of the ongoing change in society for people to stand up and say this kind of behaviour is not acceptable, that enabling it is not acceptable and that the victims are exactly that. If not to "get" Al Fayed, but to change the world around perpetrators who are still alive.

The time for the investigation, the time for the trial was when the man was alive. You go from women accusing Al Fayed to people enabling his behaviour in the blink of an eye. If he was alive it would be accusation then alleged behaviour. But he's dead so yes, he's definitely guilty and he can't sue you or me for libel because you can't libel a dead person. He doesn't get the benefit of innocent until proven guilty. He's bang to rights. Private Eye says so.demographic wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2024 6:34 pmSo the number of women accusing Al Fayed of abusing them is upto 111, Private Eye and IIRC Vanity Fair reported on this years ago.Saga Lout wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 1:08 pm You can say what you like about Mohamed Al-Fayed, you can make all kinds of allegations. I don't want to appear argumentative for the sake of it, but I believe it's far more complex and convoluted.
In todays world free speech has all but disappeared. All manner of groups or collective claim the right to essentially do as they please, claim what they like and woe betide anyone who has a different opinion.
It's as if we're slowly but quietly creating a world where we can all do what we went, whether good or detrimental to society at large and no one can make a challenge to it.
Woke gone mad?
I don't have any major issues with trans, non binary or other labels but, should any of these be used for illegal acts or that provoke violence then I do have an issue.
Perhaps not as eloquent as @Screwdriver , but I hope I'm fairly clear.
