It would be confusing to work out who owes who what between France and Germany, over Alsace-Lorraine.ZRX61 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2024 11:03 pmApparently they forgot about this one. Never mind minor border issues, Aquitaine belongs to England.

Yup. It feels very much like Germany but is full of quite nationalistic French people. Germany said 'Germany ends at the Vosges mountains', France said 'France ends at the Rhine'.JackyJoll wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2024 11:58 amIt would be confusing to work out who owes who what between France and Germany, over Alsace-Lorraine.ZRX61 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2024 11:03 pmApparently they forgot about this one. (It also adds to the Oradour atrocity and is part of why it is as it is today. Some (14?) of the Waffen SS troops that did it were from Alsace....which France regarded as France).

Savoie has changed nationality so many times!! Mostly between France and Italy. But I believe the Swiss made the effort at one point (they definitely had a go at Haut-Savoie!!).Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2024 12:07 pmNever mind minor border issues, Aquitaine belongs to England.
The history around here is quite interesting on that score! LOL Probably why one of the staple foods is pizza
Also, the view of Mont Blanc that you can see from my resort is actually the Italian side of Mont Blanc. Weird because that is on the French side geographically

Shouldn't you, as a Corn, be siding with your fellow Celts against the Bastard English?

Re: In todays news...
I do, but it will be easier to get England back if the Engish bugger off. Of course the Angles and Saxons came from elsewhere, but Aquitaine sounds more appealing, and it's not quite so long ago.

A newborn baby found earlier this year in Newham, east London, is the third child abandoned by the same parents, the BBC can report.
DNA tests presented to the East London Family Court established that “Baby Elsa” is the sibling of two babies, a boy and a girl, found in very similar circumstances in 2017 and 2019.

Ok, I know the second happens a lot, but really, have they not worked out what causes it yet?!!

The only recent case of (legal) forced female sterilisation in the UK was a woman with an IQ of 70. The courts ordered that she could/should be sterilised for the protection of her and her children.Noggin wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 8:05 amJeesus. IIRC a chap was also treated the same way a few years ago.
Sadly I'm inclined to think your first explanation is the more likely one

Re: In todays news...
What were the Italians trying to achieve with this? I hope they are prosecuting the cops with the same charges.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c877vp7v6lxoA court in Florence has reconvicted Amanda Knox for slander, years after she was acquitted of murdering her British roommate Meredith Kercher in 2007.
Knox will not go to prison as she has already served four years for the murder, for which she was originally convicted.
At the time she was also convicted of slander for blaming the murder on local bar owner Patrick Lumumba during police interrogation, but that conviction was quashed last year and a retrial ordered.
Knox's lawyers have said they expect to appeal against the latest verdict.
They added that Amanda was disappointed as she was hoping to finally clear her name after years of legal battles.
She told the court on Wednesday that police had coerced her into implicating Mr Lumumba.
"The police threatened me with 30 years in prison, an officer slapped me three times saying 'Remember, remember'," Knox, 36, said.
