Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
Inspired from a conversation I had at the weekend, when somebody told me they hadn't seen anybody in weeks, apart from Lynn over the road who popped in for a cuppa, and daughter J's boyfriend popping around, oh, and her mum coming for Sunday dinner. You get the drift.
I can genuinely say I know of only one friend who has locked themselves away, as he's just called me to say he's going round the bend with boredom, but his wife has an immunity condition so he can't risk going out.
So, for the purposes of being bleeding nosy, are you a law-abiding citizen, a flagrant flouter or a make-it-up-as-you-go-along sort of person?

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
I think we've broken it once, by having my lads mate over, but then again he's a mate he sits next to for 7 hours a day in school, so i felt we were OK.
Other than that, i've met a few people outdoors, but never more than the number specified and 99% of the time way less than that.
We do online shopping, the wife goes to the supermarket maybe once a week. I go to the farm shop once a week. Both are masks on etc.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
I guess the restrictions are a bit different here, but yes, pretty much!
I say pretty much as there are a few times I've forgotten to do the paperwork when I've gone out. I wear a mask when there are other people around - but living in an almost empty ski resort means it'd be bloody stupid to wear the mask all the time
The only thing I'd say I've done totally wrong is meet some friends at their apartment. But they are the only people I've met with socially since I've been back. Although that does mean I haven't followed to the letter
The bars up here are closed and only some of the restaurants are doing take away
But, as with mountain people normally, hardly anyone here seems to be following the rules apart from wearing masks in the shops!!

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
I've been good.
It's been pretty easy for me as I'm fond of my own company and rarely get bored.
I can't see why your mate can't go out, just stay the fuck away from people and go for a walk,or something. I have to be careful because my Da is 93 and very frail, but in all honesty I haven't found it difficult to avoid folk.

I've put followed to the letter but that's mainly because everyone else is so I haven't had any friends to play with (at least that's what they tell me).

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
This is the confusion surrounding the rules. My kid goes to school and is in a 'bubble' of c. 300 kids in her year group. She can walk home with her two best mates, but can't invite them in to do their homework together, as is their wont most days. All the people I know who have it in their house have said it was their kids bringing it home from school. Two mates who's boys brought it home and my mate's wife who works in a school that has just sent every kid home. It was inevitable that this would happen, but was there an alternative?
Last time I went to a pub & restaurant, it was all controlled and people were abiding to the rules. The only issue was chucking out at 10pm and people forced out into a narrow street from all the establishments. Now that that opportunity to meet up has been closed, it's not really a surprise people will meet up in private houses, where nobody will wear a mask, sanitize hands, etc. It's self-defeating.
Anyhow, looks like The Smoke will be shut down today. Announcement at 3.30pm apparently. Looks like my lunch on Friday has been well and truly kyboshed.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
The honest answer is that I'm not really sure whether I'm adhering or not as I'm not completely certain over what the current exact rules are, and I have been carrying on in the same way for the last 9 months or so.
I've been completely respecting people's personal space, wearing masks in shops and pubs/restaurants, and generally being what I consider to be sensible but I haven't really bothered trying to work out whether I'm possibly breaking any particular guideline or law that may be in place at any particular time by making what may be deemed as non-essential or disallowed journeys or meeting a greater number of people than any given quota.

I know. I usually put on a few pounds too.
All joking aside, this thread prompted me to drop a text to my mate who's got it along with missus. Just text back to tell me they had just been seen by a covid response team and were waiting for the ambulance to take them to the hossie. Shit.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
TBH they don't have a massive effect on my life, I'm an anti social git, so for me it's wearing a face mask in a shop and chatting to friends either online or outside, that's about it, seeing as I haven't been to a pub in 17 years, I can't say I'm missing that much.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
I'm mostly compliant.
I think my only transgression is that the outside 'rule of six' is now set in an open garage rather than a back garden since the weather turned. We are socially distanced and there is never more than six people, usually less. For 1 or 2 of the people who meet who live on their own, its their only interaction with people each week.
Bite me.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
I've been a generally good boy but of course we have different rules here which although are fairly straightforward, don't make a lot of sense.
Over 65s are allowed out between 10 am and 1 pm daily and for the last couple of weekends there's been a full lockdown from 8 pm Friday night until 5 am Monday. Weekdays up to 65s can go out until 8 or 9 pm (I'm over 65 so not really bothered. Under 20s are the same as over 65s.
I've generally been sticking to the rules for most of the year but I lost 3 months work on the boat earlier and didn't want to do that again so I've been up at the boat working some afternoons. I live alone and I'm alone up at boat, what's the difference? I travel to and from the boat on my scooter and have no contact with anybody. Fortuitously, M's apartment is just over the road from the boat so I can pop over for a brew, just as I could pop in for a brew any day between 10 and 1.
I have been a bit naughtier on occasion, last week I went round to M's for dinner and stayed well past curfew but got home without incident despite the rakı. The Jandarma in the village are not too fussed and as I appear a lot younger than my years even if they stop me Ithink I'll get away with it.

That's a bit rubbish.
Until last week I hadn't met or known anyone personally who had the pox, then my mate across the road caught it from someone in his workplace who's child brought it home from school. As an ex smoker matey has a history of getting chesty schitt,so I'm a tad worried he'll end up in hospital with the plumbing in.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
I fall somewhere between the top two choices - mainly because my industry (Construction) is still working flat out where possible and I have to go into the office occasionally - so whilst I am able to work at home I don't do it all the time. In terms of contact it's very much in line with government requirements and the sites have all been re-programmed and have methodology in place to take covid into account - so distancing, one way systems, changes to manual handling requirements and cleaning to ensure chance of cross-infection is minimised etc.
With a son with no immune system after chemo still at home I'm simply not prepared to take the risks.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
I know a handful of people who've had it: two were stupid enough to go skiing on the weekend of the first Euro lockdown and get themselves all over FB, shitfaced and with their arms around people - they have recovered pretty well. A teacher friend caught it from a child during April and is still struggling now ("long Covid" is real!) - there seems to be no rhyme nor reason for who cops it worst and that's the most worrying thing. I'm fit enough but asthmatic and whilst my oldest son is fit enough with no immune system he may well up in trouble.Skub wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 3:05 pmgremlin wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 1:58 pm I know. Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
As far as I can tell I’m sticking to the rules. On the instructions of my boss, all my staff are in meaning lots of people milling around at shift change, I am in every day I’m on duty, we can’t work from home due to my boss wanting “visible leadership”. I have not seen him for 4 months.
I live alone in a tier 2, my girlfriend lives alone in a tier 3 and we are each other’s bubble. She comes to stay with me and I go and stay with her, which I think we are allowed. I wear a mask in shops, petrol stations etc, at incidents I wear gloves and a mask, I don’t go in shops other than the village shop for essentials, I use click and collect.
Lost 2 people at work, a mate who lived abroad, gf’s ex MIL, SIL’s son, so far.
Not seen mates or family for months, don’t go to meetings unless on Teams/Skype, arranged to drop Xmas presses for the grandkids at the sons today but I won’t be going in and I will wear a mask. Hoping to see my youngest next week again for a quick meet up. They both live in tier 3.
I deal with the general public all day long, the. number who have totally ignored all rules, suggestions etc is no real surprise. 50% dont wear masks to go to garages, shops, services, so called essential journeys seems to mean a family get together 200 miles away, putting four in a car from separate houses to travel to work, shopping, but 50 miles from home.
Lockdown to some has been totally ignored.
Mick, awaiting lockdown 3.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
Following them almost to the letter but not quite, predominantly work related where sometimes it just isn't possible to maintain social distancing. Visited mates and been visited by mates, always at their or my work, and popped down to Essex to hand over birthday and xmas presents to my daughter and son-in-law but we met outside at a park.
I know five people, first hand, who've had it including my wife and experiences have ranged from not knowing they had it (selected for a random test which came back positive and tested positive again on a 2nd test) to the death of the father of one my daughter's friends (same age as me, no underlying health conditions, fit and healthy, went in the space of 72 hours from getting a cough to dying in intensive care).
I still think we've got at least another year of this before enough people are vaccinated for herd immunity to see off the virus in the UK and I can foresee international travel becoming more difficult as each country progresses with their own, or not, vaccination programs.

London in Tier 3 as from midnight Wednesday.
Which means people will simply go to each other's houses.

Why though ? Why are people not listening ? Not seeing the death and infection figures.
For example, has the 2 people you know now made you think a little bit about your flippancy ?
