I've never heard of a judge providing proof of anything in court, it's not their job.
And fortunately the prosecution doesn't need to prove anything about the virus, just that the defendant broke the law.

I’ve said my bit ...I will leave the rest of you to your handwringing about people going to the shops ..
But when a drunk speeding driver kills his family and another innocent family, I guess you’re ok with ignoring they broke the rules and it’s the governments fault...
I never said that ...but for years this site and its predecessors have raged about speed cameras, and how the filth should instead concentrate on those that are killing people etc etc...suddenly they are all buying into the ‘any one of them could be killing your granny’ even though the vast majority of them ( like speeders? ) won’t be doing any harm at all ..??
1800 people died t’other day, close to 100,000 people have died in a year. Now we can argue whether or not those figures are inflated, but even if exaggerated, it knocks road deaths into a cocked hat. That one day is about a years worth of road deaths....

A sense of perspective is required me thinks.

Most people don’t kill someone speeding, most people hooking a wheelie don’t kill anyone.

Get caught doing 145mph they’ll lock you up for 6-12m without a thought, get caught doing a wheelie, they will lock you up 6m easy...

The many pay for the worst actions of the idiots, that’s how laws work.

Locking up many thousands of people for years isn't viable I'm afraid.

killing them with a cattle gun is likely to dramtically help, but you've got to catch them first. Or use thought Police.

Sorry but I've gotta pick you up on that.

If you look here https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/deaths sure you can find a figure of 1820 on the 20th...but the deaths on the 17th and 18th were 671 and 599 respectively. That's the problem with using deaths by date registered. They are always going to be playing catch up.

If you want a true picture go to the top table which are deaths recorded by date of death. As well as being more consistent you will note that they are a lot lower than the headline figures.

But big figures and scare tactics make big news.

I'm not arguing in any way that its not serious but it annoys me when incorrect figures are bandied about.

No idea what you’re “picking me up on”.... the exact number daily is all but irrelevant, but also, I suppose you expect and exact linear death toll per day... doesn’t happen like that. Still if you fell empowered by “pulling me up”

Good laws should only trouble law breakers ..imagine the outcry if all drivers were banned from the road because some people are drink driving ? The many paying for the actions of idiots ...

So just so that I understand it..you have now put a numerical value on complete obedience to the law? Greater than 3500 but less than 100,000 ?

And just to be clear..most people that go out to meet friends don’t kill anyone ... Also drivers and riders have been killing people at the rate of 3000 to 6000 PA for 50 or more years which puts covid deaths in the shade ...

I’m happy to comply with the rules ( as much as anyone does) , I just find it ironic the change in attitudes being shown by site members .. perhaps it’s the fear that this cause if death might actually affect them but speeding, taking drugs, riding dangerously apparently don’t ?

Perhaps, but also the length of time exposed to danger. Speed for a long time, it no longer seems dangerous, lock down for months, it no longer seems dangerous to no comply. Etc

not so shady as you might expect -
3000 x 50 = 150 000.
UK COVID deaths to date close to 100 000.

I've read quite a lot about Vitamin D being helpful (to prevent and help get better from Covid). But I wouldn't take it instead of a vaccine!!!

Here in the first confinement back in March - May it was a three strikes type thing but with each fine being double the first and then you did jail time (not loads, but a bit of a shock in the area when the first person was jailed!)

I've not heard of anyone since then but we haven't been in the same sort of lockdown since then

I'm a bit peeved at the mo as, because the resorts are open (not the lifts and restaurants and bar can only do take away), we are currently being inundated with grockles. It's weird because there aren't that many things to do other than skiing. The avalanche risk is very high (4 or 5 out of 5 over the last few weeks). It is just strange just how many people are still coming out here on holiday (French people)

But then, we currently don't have the same restrictions. Just that we have to be in our homes (or a home) between 18:00 - 06:00.

Still weird to see so many people around, from other areas, and too many wearing a chin warmer, not a mask!! :(

Click on the Maps part where you can change the type of map you view.
It shows new covid numbers per 100 000 if I read it right over the last seven days.
South England was 69, North England was 59, Scotland was 30.
Germany 19
France 29.
Poland 16.
Spain was higher than the UK at 73 and Israel was high also.

But, as far as islands were concerned, the UK was the worst I saw.

So, there’s loads of places showing worse, unless you add some arbitrary qualifier “Island”.

The jury is out as to whether vitamin d is effective against Covid. The just is in as to whether vitamin d helps against the British winter and lack of sunshine. I started taking it daily in March.

Nope, theres two countries showing worse. Hardly "loads".
The reason I mentioned the Island part was because we would have what I thought a border thats simpler to control.
Either way though, the numbers of infections over the last seven days are in amongst the highest on the map.

Have a look on it, its not hard to do.

England 69.5
Portugal 110.8
Spain 73.9 - up to 114 in regions
Gibraltar 167.5
Israel 77.4
Parts of Sweden 69.6
Czechia 67.9

In fact a chunk of places in the 60s...

The island quantifier is ridiculous - most of the populated world isn’t classed as an island. The possibility of “closing the uk” is also laughable.
