When i came out i could see my warm breath coming through the snood so pretty much fucking useless as a barrier apart from conforming to the requirement to cover mouth and nose.

Wont bother using that anymore and will use proper masks but how many others are using these ineffective "facemask/coverings" with no idea how pointless they were
The "breath" you can see is warm air from your breath condensing into water vapour. It is unlikely to contain a significant viral load since it was effectively a gas. The mask/scarf is designed to reduce the amount of sputum or aerosol which is in the 10um particle range. Each droplet can contain thousands (?) millions (?) of viral particles.

You are much more likely to become infected if you ingest/inhale a substantial quantity of virus when it contaminates mucous membranes (eyes, mouth, nose) or goes directly into the lung. I don't **think** individual microparticles of virus can persist in free space unless they are protected within a micro bubble of snot.

That can linger in the environment either as airborne aerosol or literally gobs of snot, phlegm, sputum and all manner of bodily fluids we shed all the time. That's why washing your hands is vitally important. It can persist in the environment for up to 72 hours (I read off some .org .who or somesuch) so any foreign material post, shopping, that enters the house should be decontaminated first - then wash your hands.

I use IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) mixed with 30% aloe vera for taste. That kills any virus. Although for the pedants, it is more of a clockwork mechanism than anything else, it's not actually a life form. I still like to kill the fucker though. Just in case.

Granny (Trish) is doing OK.
Her son, tested negative.
My mate (her grandson that she raised) and his client (the guy he looks after) both tested negative.
Mates wife, who probably had more contact with granny than anyone else has also tested negative, twice.
I've sent my test off this morning. I feel fine and am very confident that it will be negative.

I'll be following the NHS track and trace guidelines which are to self isolate until Sunday.
Another update

Granny Trish is flat out on her back, really hoping she gets better soon

My test came back as negative.

My brother in law is a retired paramedic, his wife a retired nurse.

Unknown to me they held a new years party at their house. A week later my sister in law called in with them to pick stuff up and they seemed a little 'off colour'.

Several days later sister in law asks Mrs.Skub to help her with a job, (and against my advice, she did) so they both were in close contact. Only another few days after that SIL rings to say BIL and family all have tested positive and consequently she is isolating. She asked if we could get in some shopping for her.
She was not best pleased when it was pointed out that because of contact with her,we now must isolate for 10 days,so sort her own bloody shopping.

But I think people genuinely think they are adhering, hence my post (alright, maybe not a bloody NYE party). Spoke to an ex-colleague of mine who I keep in contact with as he's got quite advanced Parkinson's*. His daughter picked up the phone and explained to me that luckily she was allowed to have mum and dad in her 'bubble', as was the son so they could both help out looking after them. Don't get me wrong, I fully support the assistance they're both giving to their parents, but they all seem to have misinterpreted the rules to their own agenda.

Of course I dobbed them as soon as I put the phone down.

*Just as a precautionary tale, whilst my friend was working with me, I cajoled, begged, threatened, persuaded him to go for the free BUPA wellness test our employer provided yearly. Never would. Always an excuse to give it a miss. Some years before he retired, he started falling out of bed. I told him that weren't right. He then started lashing out and hitting his wife in his sleep. Again, the warning signs were there. Never went to the doctor.
Aged 59 he took redundancy and, in what should have been a brilliant time for him, he was diagnosed. I ain't saying they'd have cured him, but the treatment could have held it back a few years. As it is, he can barely walk or talk these days, poor sod.

Before Xmas the govt raised the islands to tier 2. But over Xmas and 3 Kings it went badly :(

From today we're in tier 3 for 2 weeks. No enduro, so glad we went out for big one yesterday.
But think I can still go out with the missus.

The resorts are all very quiet now anyway. Nobody on beach at all today.

Be wary of that mindset being repeated by umpteen people across the island, not of "Can't" but "Hmmm could I ... ?".

If widespread, you'll have the same sort of things that others have posted here, the 'interpretations" or justifications that have been listed here.

One of my lads lives in Perth,Australia. Life there is normal,no masks in shops no lockdown.

They were very strict from the beginning, folk coming in were required to self isolate for 14 days, but not in their own homes. Hotels were arranged and policed for breeches of regulations.

In one known case a woman was found to be missing from her hotel and was found at her partner's house. She was given the choice of a $50k fine,or jail time. She didn't have the 50k,so she had to do 6 months in pokey.

I saw a meme yesterday that pointed out...

you can buy noodles in Oz that cook in 2 minutes
The same noodles from the same company are available in the UK, with a 3 minute cook time

And that ladies and gentlemen sums up the UK response times to Covid

Yesterday afternoon the skies cleared up here and it was quite noticeable the amount of small aircraft about. Admittedly they do not really pose a risk to anyone else but I can't imagine it is a trip that you justify and probably isn't local for many of the pilots.

But still announcing them in advance, allowing plenty of time for serious dodgers to get in before the deadline.

Well, in fairness, you'd have to allow those in transit time to land/dock...

I may be wrong but I thought a pilot has to do so may hours per year to keep their license so I have a certain amount of sympathy. Its not like they're going to cough on me from 3000 feet

Didn't want to start a new thread so this seems to be the appropriate place to put this statement from the US State Department on January 15th.

https://www.state.gov/fact-sheet-activi ... -virology/
Fact Sheet: Activity at the Wuhan Institute of Virology

For more than a year, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has systematically prevented a transparent and thorough investigation of the COVID-19 pandemic’s origin, choosing instead to devote enormous resources to deceit and disinformation. Nearly two million people have died. Their families deserve to know the truth. Only through transparency can we learn what caused this pandemic and how to prevent the next one.

This evening @ 9pm on ITV there is "The Virus That Shook The World" which should prove to be 'interesting' ...

Buckle up. Although the number of new cases announced today are down, we are not out of the woods yet.

Vaccines might not work, or not very well, and also if you have already had covid A this covid will be like having a new infection.
