It is common knowledge that Whitehall, the Civil Service, the scientific community, SAGE, PHE, etc. are as leaky as large guage sieves where leaks are made for purely political purposes, so what you say above is hardly surprising, is it? Give the politics a break ...

So here we go again. Except this time there is an end in site.

The glass half empty crowd will whine and see nothing beyond the immediate future.

The glass half full crowd will remain patient and be focused on the longer term goal.

Edit: I am one of the latter.

Wee Jimmy always copies Boris - even if she announces it slightly before or after. She does like to make it look like her idea though.

SKS will always criticise Boris - it’s what he’s there for.

I wonder what the practical people who think the glass is too large for the amount of liquid it's required to hold are going to think and do.

As much as I would love starmer to be something new and fresh for the Labour Party, only a days ago he was saying schools must stay open for the kids.

Also,he would have been briefed on the PMs notice, the opposition generally is, and magically - a few hours before it goes out, he calls for schools to shut. Someone cynical might think he was using his briefing to do a bit of politicking

Never heard of him, I just went onto google images and typed in "moaners" and picked a picture.

We're all sinners, a bit of lust, a bit of pride, some gluttony over Christmas, it's all forgivable, but the bitter, envious, jealous and resentful are the most wretched of all human beings. Poor is the man that cannot look at another and be happy for his success, they seek only to bring unhappiness to the people around them.
You realise that you moan more than anyone? Your band standing is pure deflection and transference. At worst, it’s gaslighting. So be it.

I googled ‘broken drum’. I was in a rush and couldn’t quite make out the first image, but I think it had a shark in the background in a very uncompromising position. <- see. Pointless statement. Utterly pointless. Google that.

Sturgeon making her statement at lunchtime gave more people with kids more time to prepare. I was still speaking with the headmistress of one my kids’ schools at 6pm... With the day before we were told they were to stay open and end of year exams would be happening. That’s a big I’ll-turn given the science wasn’t changing overnight.

Opposition are oppositional but I thought SKS was really supportive of Bojo on R4 last night.

Anyway, any attempt at criticising the decision making of this government will be seen as screaming mad labour support rather than what it is: frustration about their incompetence.

No more politics from me on this. I will still voice dissatisfaction at decision making where appropriate, as should we all.

Did you miss Boris's announcement at the weekend? He said the rules were about to get tougher, I don't know if he said lockdown directly but the BBC certainly said that was likely.

There is either an end or another spin of the wheel, it depends on people.
I wonder - Covid restrictions - are you adhering this time?

I think the UK needs to get tougher. The priorities are all to cock, two thirds of people on this thread aren't following the rules, but the argument is "I know best", "it's Boris" and "The free press is brilliant".

I do moan about moaners a lot.
Dude, you moan about most things.

You spent weeks telling me the forum was turning to shit because of politics. In the past 4 weeks, you have more posts in the political based threads than any other member. Mostly moaning.

Perhaps it's a colloquial thing, "hiding behind the settee" is when someone is being hypocritical, using an excuse to hide that isn't real, like moaning about the government but breaking the rules themselves and hiding behind the settee to avoid the consequences.

So in long hand I should have written - How long are you going to keep breaking the rules for and putting yourself in danger and then blaming other people. We stuck to the rules from day one and now we're fairly close to being normal.
With your local context of how rules are decided and enforced?

If you get the new variant over there then you may find even harsher rules are required.

[The only context I've heard that was for being eg afraid of Dr Who - you know it's not real, but .... ]

I'm sanctimonious, lol.

Heading out to your beach hut later are you? Because you're so clever that the rules don't apply to you.
Might ride down there on my MTB later this week. Sorry that you're getting cabin fever. :-(

I can do empty platitudes too

"Where wealth accumulates, men decay" Oliver Goldsmith

Being a few hours flight away, you're missing some of our local context.

BBC news a few minutes ago, interviewing a SAGE member.

"What's the scientific evidence for closing schools and colleges but keeping nurseries open?"

"There isn't any. It was a political decision."

Will you be adhering?

Yep, and despite what a fairly non-representative poll here says, so are most people in my experience. Of course nobody wants the restrictions, of course people are fed up with it, and of course people sometimes have the need to express dissatisfaction with the situation, but for you to high handedly dismiss the population of the UK as "whiners and moaners" whilst spouting more self-aggrandising bollocks will always provoke the reaction you want

I do hope so, every time I log in here this thread is back to the top with more bickering. The only other improvement would be a few of the members who drag almost every thread down to ming-mong-ping-pong disappearing for a week or so too. New forum, same old posters poking each other for a rise. I honestly don't know why Weeksy bothers with having a General Mayhem forum sometimes.
