IIRC the annual flu jab only targets (a best guess from those circulating) three variants.

Oh please . . .

Who the fuck is 'we'? You and me, you and all the others posting on here or somebody else who is not 'we'?

Maybe what 'we' (as in everyone affected by this virus) should be doing is pressuring all our own governments, the WHO, the UN and the world's dog into making the CCP give funding to all labs that are researching into the virus, looking at ways to alleviate the worst symptoms of it or trying to make a vaccine that works.

Oh wake up and read the thread. It was a slightly tongue in cheek reply to Saga being pedantic about the specific definition and meaning of 'vaccine'.

Oh dear.

My sincere apologies for not reading every word, understanding every nuance, following every separate conversation. In my defence, I've been in town all day (a covid hot spot :o ) and only been looking at posts if I've had to wait around a bit.

However, as well as hopefully defended myself against the dreaded lurgy I think I've sorted my issues with a delivery held up at Istanbul customs, got a guy trying to source me a 2nd hand flywheel for my outboard motor and I've now got all the paperwork sorted for my citizenship application.

Hopefully now I can lift this Covid restrictions thread to a higher priority rating and not make such silly errors again. I'm still not sure though how I, as part of a 'we' should be more specific about which variant the vaccine was developed 'against' etc.

Hope your recovery is going well.

Thank you. I was 'signed off' by the physio and am now back driving. However, nystagmus and balance problems persist, so still have walking etc problems and two wheels is never happening again. Also still have various other Chiari issues. But that's probably not what you meant? I don't have Covid.

AZ jabs, 1st one in April 2nd one was June. The wife had Pfizer, she's not suffered half as bad.
Well GWS. It's a bit of a wake-up call if we were all thinking that being jabbed meant everyone just gets a runny nose at feels a bit ick for a couple of days. Your symptoms sound like some of the 'not jabbed' ones when the whole thing kicked off.
Propensity to be reinfected and severity of symptoms doesn't appear to depend on the type of jabs (AZ, Pfizer, etc.), it instead seems to depend on the individual (for poorly understood reasons).

Isn't that a bit of a flu thing tho?

Some people are laid out and some are just ill.

Then there are some weirdos that have never had flu!!! Ever!!

Definitely feeling like when not if. Since Monday 4 girls in my sons class have tested positive. As of this morning we are all still showing negative but 4 in 28 in a week is looking like we are getting it very soon.

So it's about 2 weeks since I came down with the 'rona. Still got a bit of a cough, I can taste more things as each day passes but sense of smell is still very limited. The worse thing is the post-virus fatigue, I'm just constantly tired and everything is an effort. It's getting better each day, but it's pretty shitty.

Well, clearly quite a few people weren't adhering...

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-58517123

In all honesty, when I went to Italy last October, I worked from home for 10 days, but other than that fairly much did my normal stuff, inasmuch as whatever 'normal' was back then, i.e. walking the dog in the local woods or going for a quick run. Shopping was being delivered anyway, so didn't need to go to the shops. Avoiding wife and kid was a fairly pointless exercise as we live the same house.

In that time I was not contacted once. Kinda felt the whole thing was a bit of a farce.

Not helped in some ways by the people/companies sending/delivering tests

A fried returned to the UK at a point when he had to quarantine at home for 10 days and do the day 2 & 8 tests.

The tests were delivered to a pick up point at the nearest Tesco, not to his home. So he had to go to a busy shop to collect them

My mate who got it said it should be called the 'do fuck all virus' as that's what he was able to do until it completely passed. Said even at the end you'd think right I'll do the dish washer followed by XYZ but you'd do the dish washer and shoot your bolt and have to lie down again.

I've had 'flu once in my life. I remember leaving work and standing on the train station platform thinking that if I didn't sit down I would fall down. I was only in 20's so should have had bags of resilience. Got home, went to bed, stayed there shivering for a couple of days emerging just to refuel and then take care of the ablution side of things later.

If the 'Rona is like that, then it probably ain't much fun.

That said, I was talking to a colleague, face-to-face, the other day who told me he'd had it recently. Said he felt 'coldy', bit shivery but generally ok. Only knew he had it by doing a RA test then going for a PCR which confirmed it. Compare that to my other mate, similar age, who was hospitalised for a week, just before Christmas. I suspect the difference was the vaccine.

Well on the basis of my son's class having 5 positives and daughters 1 positive in just over a week I reckon I'm probably gonna find out what it's like soon

I've been offered a flu jab this year presumably due to my heart valve being wonky so wonder if I'll be offered a booster too. Guess I'll find out soon.

I’ve had flu ( and swine flu) and now have the jab every year. Coincidently, we’ll be getting out Covid booster and flu jabs on the same week

Surely how bad it affects people depends on so much?

I've never had flu. Well, never had the sort of flu people describe - have to go to bed, shivery, no energy. Kinda weird because before last November I'd only ever had one flu jab and most people I know seem to have had flu a few times. I've never had it. (I do get the most disgusting 'runny face' cold most years tho - fully able to function, but generally elect to steer clear of other humans!)

They weren't testing out here when I think I had the Corona one. Some symptoms I had couldn't really be explained any other way - mainly because I only had them for about three days except for the lack of taste and smell. The last two haven't fully returned, but could now be explained by other stuff. Maybe

I've got friends that were wiped out for 10 days, some who were hospitalized, some in ICU, others just felt a bit rough for a few days. Sadly I have friends that have the long covid thing too - similar to Potter but (possibly because they were much less fit) they have seriously struggled for more than a year to see respiratory improvements

I suppose that one day there will be a test to tell you if you will 'get it bad' or just have it wave at you. But for now it really seems to be random because, whilst at the start it was all about fat unfit people would get it worst/die, it seems that fit people and young people randomly get it to the same degree :( :(

Does anyone ever get tested for 'flu'.?

It always seems to be something that loads of folk claim theyve had, followed swiftly by everyone else claiming "that's not proper flu!"

I have no idea if I've ever had flu. How would one know? Beyond being tested obvs, but it is not like you can just book a test.

People have always told me that having flu means you are wiped out, can't move (they do seem to get to the bathroom and kitchen though!), shivery and generally a bit like death warmed up

But, given the disparities between various people with Covid, I'd guess a lot more people have had flu just not at the higher levels of symptoms??
