I was looking to see if Australia was producing its own vaccines yet, turns out it's doing pretty much what the EU did when they found out they were late to the party.
I also found this great article from January telling us all how shit Britain and its government are at producing vaccines and generally everything. Apparently we got rid of our manufacturing facilities and won't be able to keep up with the rest of the world and should have done the same as New Zealand. Great insight there Guardian.

Britain could be mass-producing its Covid shot. Shame we junked our industrial base

Until they get their vaccination program steaming ahead they'll be in a state of perpetual lockdowns. One man's 'effective lockdown policy' is another man's 'somebody coughs and, fuck me sideways, the state shuts down again'.
I’m not sure what their (and NZ) exit strategy is either. I doubt they’ll vaccinate kids so they’ll have no antibodies due to no exposure so it will rip through the schools. At some point they’re going to have to accept that a zero Covid policy is unattainable.

Aditya Chakrabortty is a self serving Marxist apparatchik of the first order.

The big bet in Australia was on a home developed vaccine which was abandoned last year. Zero Covid which is what Australia and NZ now appear to be going for will only succeed in closing down their economies.

December 2020 wrote: Australia has abandoned the trial of a locally developed vaccine against Covid-19 after some trial participants showed false HIV positive results.

The vaccine was being developed by the University of Queensland (UQ) and biotech firm CSL, which was one of the four main candidates contracted by the Australian government for coronavirus vaccines.

Signs in bars are now saying that photo proof of stuff on your phone is no good.

They're also applying that to young kids trying to buy booze.

Still being careful, unfortunately the wifes 80 year old mum with 'end of life copd', who lives with us, still likes bingo and socialising. She has failed a flow test, so now her the mrs and myself are getting the proper tests tomorrow morning and isolating until we get the results.
Luckily we have all had both jabs so hopefully will not end up in hospital, if infected.
Unfortunately the treatment for my Rheumatoid arthritis destroys my immune system, so who knows?

I'm seeing less and less people now doing the mask thing.

Although admittedly most of them/all of them were younger generation.

My son, in Bristol, was telling me it seems almost back to normal in the UK.

Official advice us that you don't need to wear masks at all now yes? Except "in crowded AND enclosed spaces"?

My son I think is only wearing his when working (primarily to reduce the risk of catching it and having to take time off / isolate presumably). But the customers are cracking on as normal.

Interested because it's hard to tell from what I've seen on the telly over the weekend (10s of thousands packed into footy stadiums) and I supposedly arrive in the UK on Friday. It's still fairly different in France.

One of Whitham's trackday's @ Anglesea was cancelled last week at the 11th hour on the morning of the TD, with reason given as the hospital was over-run due to Covid.
There is some discussion on it on various other forums with some conflicting info, but as far as I can make out, it may have been the A&E dept being seriously down on staff due to Covid, rather than full of patients suffering from the effects of Covid :?

Not really so much of a "big gamble", was it? ;)

Mother in law has tested positive, me and the mrs are negative so far.

Although we are double vacc'd and not legally obliged to isolate, we both work at the local hospital and they do not want us at work for at least 10 days. Will take a flow test just before the 10 days expire to make sure we are still clear.

... pals south of Oxford and they tell me it's the same.
We were in a motorway service area near High Wycombe on Sunday, it was about 60% wearing.

But in Tesco ('south of Oxford') on Monday it was almost everyone.

I’m in a small town in SE Scotland and the compliance is almost 100% in shops and cafe’s.

Of course it doesn’t help that everyone knows everyone else so the gossip circuit would go into overdrive if you were seen without a mask.

The localised adherence to 'safety first' is interesting innit.

In areas where it's kind of 50:50 - can I ask is it incredibly angsty when shopping etc?
